About this role
The purpose of the Chief Safety Officer is to lead and coordinate safety management systems across surface and underground operations, ensuring effective risk control, legal compliance and safe operational performance aligned to business requirements.
The role is accountable for implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of safety systems, enabling safe production and operational delivery.
Safety Management Systems & Execution
Lead implementation of integrated safety and health management systems across surface and underground operationsEnsure safety systems are effective, compliant and aligned to operational requirementsDrive execution of safety plans and programmes to support production and project deliveryMonitor and improve safety performance across all areas of the mineRisk Management & Compliance
Coordinate and lead risk assessments across operational and project environmentsEnsure compliance with MHSA, OHSA and applicable safety standards and legislationDevelop and maintain safety procedures, standards and codes of practiceEnsure legal compliance and support statutory safety requirementsAudits, Inspections & Assurance
Lead and coordinate safety audits and inspection programmes across the mineEnsure audit schedules, systems and documentation are maintained and compliantConduct internal and support external audits to ensure adherence to standardsMaintain audit evidence, reporting systems and post-audit corrective actionsIncident Investigation & Reporting
Lead investigation of serious and critical incidentsAnalyse incidents, identify root causes and implement corrective actionsEnsure accurate reporting of safety performance and statisticsDevelop preventive action plans to reduce recurrence of incidentsOperational Integration & Support
Support operations, engineering and project teams on safety-related mattersEnsure safety requirements are embedded in operational and project planningProvide technical safety input into VUP, C&M and operational activitiesAlign safety systems with production and operational delivery requirementsSafety Governance & Reporting
Develop and maintain safety performance reporting systems and dashboardsEnsure accurate and timely reporting to operational and statutory stakeholdersMonitor safety KPIs and drive corrective actions where requiredEnsure alignment with group safety frameworks and audit requirementsTeam Leadership & Capability

Liaise with regulators and external stakeholders on safety compliance mattersProvide guidance and advice to management and operational teams, including contractor partners on siteSupport alignment across SHE, engineering, mining and project teamsRepresent the operation on safety-related matters Grade 12 (essential)Degree or Diploma in Safety Management, Engineering or related fieldSafety management qualifications such as SAMTRAC, COMSOC or equivalent advantageous8–10 years’ experience in mining, safety or operational environmentsMinimum 3 years’ supervisory or management experience in safetyProven experience in:
