About this role

Environmental impact assessments for hydropower facilities and other renewable energy infrastructure projects as part of an interdisciplinary team in line with International Lenders' StandardsSupport aquatic biodiversity field surveys (fish, macroinvertebrates, water quality) in rivers and reservoirsAssist with species identification, taxonomic verification, and data/specimen managementContribute to literature reviews, habitat assessments, and species status evaluationsAssist in drafting technical sections of ESIA reports and biodiversity management plansSupport data entry, quality control, and analysis of ecological datasetsLiaise professionally with local counterparts, authorities, and field teamsComply with health, safety, and environmental protocols during fieldworkSupport in the design of fish migration facilitiesPreparation of technical reports and presentationsSupport in the preparation of proposals Education

Bachelor's degree in biology, biodiversity, ecology, limnology, or a related field (required)Master's degree and/or PhD in aquatic/freshwater ecology, limnology, fisheries science, or related discipline (preferred)Experience and Skills

Experience in aquatic ecology assessments is key, with knowledge of different methodologies and approachesGeneral knowledge in ecology and conservationUnderstanding of aquatic life cycles and habitatsGeneral knowledge of Mekong (and beyond) ichthyofaunaWillingness to learn and develop in aquatic ecologyWorking knowledge of data management/analysis tools (Excel required; R, GIS/QGIS an asset)Language proficiency in Lao (native/fluent) and English (working proficiency required for report writing and international team coordination); Thai or other regional languages an asset. Submission of English test scores (e.g. IELTS/TOEFL) may be requested if available, though not mandatoryWillingness to work as part of an interdisciplinary and international team across Southeast Asia and beyondWillingness to travel and undertake frequent, sometimes remote, fieldwork, including in challenging field conditions.YOUR OPPORTUNITIES
