Ready to play a hands-on role in safeguarding the environment while keeping vital operations running smoothly? Adler & Allan is looking for a proactive Yard Operative to join our Rainham team — and you could be exactly who we’re looking for!
As a Waste Yard Operative, you’ll be essential to the safe and compliant running of our waste yard. You’ll support the handling, processing, and movement of waste materials, ensuring everything is done to the highest environmental and safety standards.
This is a role for someone who takes pride in doing things properly, thrives in a busy yard environment, and wants to contribute to meaningful environmental outcomes.
What You’ll Be Doing
Managing the receipt, segregation, storage, and movement of waste streamsLoading and unloading containers, drums, IBCs, skips, and tankersCarrying out waste handling tasks including decanting, dewatering, and basic processingKeeping the yard organised, safe, and inspection-readyCompleting accurate waste documentation and internal recordsConducting routine checks on containers, equipment, and infrastructureSupporting audits, inspections, and regulator visitsWorking closely with operations, transport, and compliance teamsFollowing site instructions, method statements, and safety proceduresContributing to continuous improvement across the siteNo two days are the same — and your work will directly support our environmental protection mission.
Experience in an industrial, waste, environmental, or logistics yardSolid understanding of health & safety in a high‑risk environmentAbility to follow procedures and work safelyPhysical fitness for manual handling tasksStrong communication and teamwork skillsDesirable (but not essential):
Experience with hazardous or non-hazardous wasteForklift/telehandler/plant operation (or willingness to train)Knowledge of environmental regulationsExperience on regulated or permit-controlled sitesAdditional H&S training (First Aid, Fire Marshal, etc.)Ideal candidate will:
Be methodical and compliant, not casual about safety or paperworkBe comfortable with physical work and manual handlingUnderstand that waste yards are high-risk, regulated environmentsTake pride in housekeeping, order, and doing things properlyWork well as part of a wider operations and transport teamBe confident following instructions, permits, and safe systems of workMust have a full UK driving licence
