About this role

About 1XWe’re building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.

To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.

NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.

If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.

About the TeamThe Hardware Engineering team builds the electrical foundation that powers NEO. From actuator electronics and sensing systems to power distribution and embedded control hardware, we develop the systems that enable our robots to operate safely, reliably, and at scale.

This team works across the full product lifecycle—from early architecture and prototyping through production and field deployment. We partner closely with firmware, controls, mechanical, manufacturing, and test engineering teams to bring ambitious robotic systems into the real world.

Your CharterDesign and deliver the electrical systems that power NEO's capabilities. You will own critical hardware subsystems from architecture through production, ensuring they meet demanding requirements for performance, reliability, safety, manufacturability, and cost.

As an Electrical Engineer, you'll help bridge the gap between concept and deployment, making key technical decisions that directly impact the performance and scalability of our humanoid robots.

Key OutcomesDeliver robust electrical subsystems that meet performance, reliability, safety, and manufacturing requirements across development and production programs

Successfully bring up and validate new hardware platforms, reducing development risk and accelerating product milestones

Drive design quality through rigorous reviews, validation testing, and implementation of electrical engineering best practices

Partner across disciplines to ensure electrical systems integrate seamlessly with firmware, controls, mechanical systems, and manufacturing processes

Support successful production ramp and field deployment through scalable designs, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts

Key CompetenciesStrong system-level thinking with the ability to balance performance, cost, reliability, safety, and manufacturability

Deep expertise in electrical design, debugging, and hardware validation

Minimum RequirementsBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

5+ years of professional experience designing and shipping complex electrical systems

Strong fundamentals in analog and digital circuit design

Experience designing, debugging, and validating hardware from schematic design through PCB bring-up

Hands-on experience using laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and related tools

Preferred SkillsExperience designing motor drives, power electronics, or actuator control systems

Experience with robotic, electromechanical, or autonomous systems

Knowledge of EMI/ESD mitigation, reliability engineering, and safety-critical hardware design

Experience supporting products through manufacturing scale-up and production ramp

Familiarity with thermal design, fault-tolerant architectures, and high-power electronics

What does a successful 1X Team Member look like?Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it’s the one thing you can’t get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.
