Biomedical Scientist (Band 5)

The Welsh Blood Service (WBS) has a vacancy for HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists (Band 5 practitioner level) .

Consideration will be given to candidates who will become state registered within 12 months of appointment. In this case Annex 21 of agenda for change will apply (@75%).

This is a permanent full time post offering the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to work in the Automated Testing Department at the Welsh Blood Service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will perform a variety of routine and specialist scientific and technical tasks within the laboratories of the WBS which will include processing and testing of blood and blood components, selection & distribution of blood, blood components and commercial products, quality monitoring of components and cold chain logistics.

The successful applicant will work at a level to ensure that all processes meet the requirements of the UK Guidelines for Blood Transfusion and the EU Directive as inspected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

As a Biomedical Scientist there will be a requirement to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and variable shift patterns including weekend working. Applicants must be within a 3 0-minute journey time of the Talbot Green base.
