About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Ward 14 for a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will commence working on a busy surgical ward, caring for a variety of specialities including general surgery, ENT, urology and gynaecology. They will work closely with the registered nurses caring for pre and post- operative patients.

We are seeking highly enthusiastic and motivated individuals, with a passion for providing excellence within patient care, to join our team to help support the multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality, holistic care to patients undergoing general, urology and ENT surgery. The Band 3 Health Care Assistant contributes to pre-operative and post-operative care whilst also carrying out delegated clinical tasks within their scope of practice.

Main duties of the job

Assist patients with daily personal care: hygiene, dressing, toileting, oral care, and continence needs. Monitor and record vital signs (NEWS2): temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation. Perform various additional clinical activities such as blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis, venepuncture and recording of ECGs. Support post-operative care, including monitoring wound sites, drain outputs, catheters, and stomas (colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy). Assist in mobility and rehabilitation following extensive abdominal surgery. Support patients with dietary needs, including post-abdominal surgery requirements (e.g. low-residue diets, enteral feeding assistance). Assist in pain management by reporting pain scores and responding to patient discomfort under supervision. Chaperone patients during investigations (e.g. endoscopy prep, wound assessments, line insertions). Escort patients to theatre, imaging, and other departments as required.
