QualificationsTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/07/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing clerical and fiscal recordkeeping involving expendable supplies; receiving mail, telephone calls, patients, and visitors, and directing them to appropriate staff members; compiling statistical data and other information; composing minutes for meetings and miscellaneous correspondence; maintaining suspense files as necessary on service reports and correspondence; performing timekeeping duties. Major DutiesThe incumbent selected for the role will be responsible for carrying out a wide variety of clerical and administrative tasks associated with maintaining and supporting the professional and supervisory staff of the service as follows: Administrative and budget support Performs clerical and fiscal record keeping duties involving expendable supplies. Prepares requests for supplies so that an adequate inventory is maintained. Prepares, maintains, and updates supply ordering information for all the laboratory sections, including cost, supplier source, and special ordering or shipping information. Maintains fund control ledgers for blood and supply funds. Gathers and extracts relevant information and data for various special reports (e.g. supply usage/cost for new equipment, cost of certain supplies, etc.) and prepares and types the reports for the Chief, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service and/or Chief Medical Technologist as requested. Secretarial and general clerical support ???????Receives mail, telephone calls, patients, and visitors, and directs them to appropriate staff members while responding personally to routine requests for information regarding laboratory procedures and policies or departmental and station reports concerning the laboratory. Manages the anatomic pathology reports. Completes and types official VA forms such as those required for cost distribution reports, personnel actions, and travel requests. Serves as Computer Based Learning Administrator for P&LMS and requests classes be listed for CE credit through Learning Resources Services. Composes minutes for meetings and miscellaneous correspondence on routine matters as outlined in regulations and procedures or specifically requested by the service Chief or Laboratory Manager. Maintains suspense files as necessary on service reports and correspondence and takes required action to ensure timely follow-up. Miscellaneous support duties Performs timekeeping duties for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine service. Serves as back up to other laboratory clerical personnel with the service.
