Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist looking to begin or advance their career working with adults with swallowing and communication difficulties. This role is a rotational post and provides an excellent grounding in a wide range of clinical areas. Rotations will cover:

The acute general medical team - Bristol Royal Infirmary The voice/ENT team - St Michael's Hospital The stroke team - Southmead Hospital We will support the post holder in completing NQP and dysphagia competencies, as required. You will be joining our large team of 30 speech and language therapists and assistants working across UHBW sites. Main duties of the job

To provide speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties To work with the support and supervision of more senior colleagues To manage own time, caseload and prioritise tasks with support as required To participate in peer group supervision and regular 1:1 line management support To participate in SLT in-service training To complete NQP and dysphagia competencies to work independently with a dysphagia caseload This role would be ideal for a newly qualified therapist or a practising therapist looking to experience a range of clinical areas before committing to a specialist area. It would also suit those keen to transfer into adult work from paediatric or learning disability roles.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training Essential

Educated to degree (SLT) or equivalent HCPC registered/ RCSLT member

Desirable

Post -graduate dysphagia experience Evidence of CPD in communication and swallowing problems

Knowledge and Experience Desirable

Experience of working with adults with acquired communication/ swallowing disorders Specialist knowledge and experience of a wide range of therapeutic models of working with communication disorders and dysphagia in adults Experience of working as a core member of MDT Knowledge and experience of working with augmentative and assisted communication Experience of planning and implementing training to others

Skills and Abilities Essential

Ability to review and reflect on own skills and knowledge and to lead own CPD in conjunction with supervisors and peers Demonstrates highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of adult patients Ability to recognise own professional boundaries and accept support/ seek advice as appropriate Knowledge of clinical governance and audit Competent Information Technology Skills including use of MS office tools, Outlook, word, Excel Ability to work as part of an MDT

Developing dysphagia skills: Independent working with patients with dysphagia in a range of settings

Aptitudes Essential

Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people Ability to manage own time appropriately and to prioritise tasks Excellent organisational skills Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
