About this role

Job summary

Our vibrant Teign Core Adult Community Mental Health team based in Newton Abbot is looking for a Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join our dynamic, motivated MDT, delivering high quality mental services in our community. As one of the leading providers of mental health services in the country, we welcome applications from registered Mental Health Nurses, Learning Disability Nurses, Occupational Therapists, and Social Workers.

We are a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team working closely together to deliver a wide range of care through treatment pathways and evidence-based interventions, supporting people with complex mental health needs in the community. The role involves assessment, care planning, risk management, and therapeutic interventions, alongside contributing to service development.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the full pathway from triage to assessment and treatment. Using goal based outcomes to support a patient centered approach in their recovery journey.

Working with the team you would be encouraged to share development ideas and consider any new initiatives that may bring positive improvements to the service.

With a mixed case load you will be supported in any training that can support your career development and your professional skills, competencies and interests.

Person Specification

Skills and Abilities Essential

Computer literacy including MS Office Ability to manage change in a positive manner Ability to be mobile across a geographical area Excellent communication skills with service users, carers and colleagues Non verbal skills Ability to think and work independently/autonomously and with complex case load Ability to manage risk. Able to plan creatively to maximise effectiveness of care plans. Ability to manage own time and that of the teams. Excellent clinical assessment skills.

Experience Essential

Extensive post registration experience working at band 5 or above within mental health services Experience of managing/leading a busy caseload of clients with a range of mental health conditions Experience of clinically supervising junior and unqualified staff and mentoring students Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment. An understanding of the NSF and Mental Health Act/ Mental Health Capacity Act requirements. Evidence of relevant continuing professional development Mentoring students in line with professional requirements

Desirable

Evidence of leadership/management training within a core service Awareness of community structures and social care management responsibilities Understanding of recovery principles in Mental Health

Qualifications Essential

Essential A professional mental health qualification eg RMN / RNLD, Social Work Degree or equivalent, BSc/Diploma in OT, SROT, Chartered Clinical Psychologist, on the appropriate professional body register and hold current registration with no restrictions. Evidence of relevant continuing professional development

Desirable

Post graduate qualification relevant to specialism Clinical Supervision qualification Training to level 3 in Safeguarding children and young people: roles and competencies for Health Care staff Phlebotomy qualification
