Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Regional Fellow in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine.
The post is for 12 months with duties at the Royal Derby Hospital. This is a service post, and the appointee will be expected to cover accompanied and un-accompanied daytime elective lists in line with their training level.
Main duties of the job
The post includes supervised and solo work in a range of settings where regional anaesthesia takes place, including in elective and emergency Hands, Orthopaedic and general theatres.
In addition, sessions will be allocated across other specialties invariably requiring other regional anaesthesia or invasive techniques. Solo lists may also be allocated.
The appointee will be expected to work as part of a team with a responsibility to maintain the highest standards of anaesthetic clinical care. Active participation in internal supporting professional activities such as Departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance & Audit is essential. We have several audit and research projects that the appointee could contribute to.

We see on average 4810 OP appointments a day. We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England - an average of 2077 per week. An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day - 3rd largest in the country. Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily. Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres. We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres. We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day. Person Specification
Qualifications & Eligibility Essential
MBBS / MBChB or equivalent Life Support Qualification - ALS Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application FRCA primary or equivalent Further postgraduate qualification relevant to anaesthesia e.g. Diploma in Anaesthesia
Clinical Knowledge and Skills Essential
Minimum 3 years experience at Foundation Year 2 plus level (or equivalent) in Anaesthesia Knowledge of anaesthesia and evidence of an understanding of its application A minimum of seven years post graduate experience. Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Language and Communication Skills Essential
Experience of formal presentations Evidence of ability to work as part of an MDT, sharing administrative duties
Teaching Experience, Audit and Research Essential
Evidence and experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students Evidence of knowledge and experience of teaching clinical skills Evidence and ability to assess and apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice
