Job summary
The Pharmacy Technician will support the safe and effective delivery of medicines management within the practice, working closely with the pharmacy and wider clinical team.
Key aspects of the role include processing prescription requests, supporting medication reviews, and ensuring accurate clinical coding and record-keeping. The postholder will assist with medicines reconciliation following hospital discharge, respond to medication queries from patients and staff, and contribute to improving prescribing safety and efficiency.
The role also involves supporting quality improvement work, including audits and monitoring aligned to QOF, PQRRS and wider medicines optimisation initiatives.
This is a varied and developing role suited to someone who is organised, proactive, and keen to build their clinical knowledge while contributing to high-quality patient care.
Main duties of the job
The Pharmacy Technician will play a key role in supporting medicines optimisation and ensuring safe, efficient prescribing processes within the practice.
Day-to-day work will include managing prescription requests, reconciling medications following hospital discharge, and responding to medication-related queries from both patients and the wider clinical team. The role involves maintaining accurate clinical records and supporting safe prescribing through attention to detail and good governance.
The postholder will contribute to service improvement by supporting audits, monitoring prescribing activity, and assisting with quality initiatives linked to QOF, PQRRS and medicines optimisation programmes.
Working closely with GPs, pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team, this is a varied and evolving role offering the opportunity to develop skills, take ownership of key processes, and contribute to high-quality patient care.

Job description Job responsibilities
The Pharmacy Technician will support the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred medicines optimisation across the practice, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The role includes supporting patients to use their medicines effectively, assisting with medication reviews and medicines reconciliation following hospital discharge or care transitions, and helping to coordinate monitoring requirements for structured medication reviews. The postholder will contribute to improving prescribing safety, reducing medication waste, and supporting antimicrobial stewardship.
You will work closely with GPs, pharmacists, care homes and community pharmacies to ensure continuity of care, including managing shared care processes and supporting patients with long-term conditions.
The role also involves improving prescribing systems and processes, promoting efficient ordering and use of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), and supporting colleagues with medicines-related queries. There is a strong focus on collaboration, service improvement, and contributing to wider health outcomes for the practice population.
