About this role

Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit a Full time, Float Ward Clerk (37.5 hours p/w) Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. The role of the float ward clerk is vital at the BRCH as you will play a crucial role in the smooth running of what is a very important. You will be based on a variety of wards depending on staffing pressures so a friendly and welcoming demeanour, and the ability to remain calm under pressure, are essential for this role. Flexibility and a can-do attitude are also absolutely essential for this post as you will need to be approachable and keen to learn new processes.

Responsibilities will include acting as the patient's first point of contact with the ward, greeting and signposting patients and relatives, processing patients using CareFlow, liaising with all clinicians and colleagues to facilitate a smooth and timely stay with the ward, and sending out patient discharge letters. The maintenance of paper and electronic records is also a key element of this role. This right candidate will be responsible for setting high standards of patient care by enacting the Trust's values at all times.

Main duties of the job

Communication:

- To liaise with patients, clinical staff, GPs and Trust support staff in person, via telephone and email as and when necessary

- To show a caring and professional approach towards patients and visitors when carrying out all duties

- Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the role's line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate.

Patient Care:

- To welcome and assist patients, relatives and visitors on arrival to the ward and inform appropriate staff. This may require acting with resilience to deal with sometimes distressed patients and relatives in a professional and empathetic manner

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications Desirable

oTwo GCSEs or equivalent (Preferably English and Maths)

Knowledge & Experience Essential
