Job summary

The Frailty Unit (Loddon Ward) at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital is a busy inpatient ward, caring for frail patients over 65, the area also includes FSDEC (Frailty same day emergency care). We are currently recruiting for a Deputy Sister/ Charge Nurse position. This role requires a versatile individual to support the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare. You would be expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of your work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence and demonstrate behaviours that support and encourage an inclusive culture.

Main duties of the job

This role requires you to take charge of the clinical area and to monitor the clinical activities of the nursing team in the absence of the Ward Sister. To ensure that all staff adhere to Trust policies and the principles of their professional body. As well as minimize risk, being responsible for bed management and use leadership skills to create an environment that is safe and supportive to ensure effective teamwork and a motivated, efficient workforce.

We are looking to appoint someone to work 37.5 hours per week spread across the week, including some Nights and weekends.

Job description Job responsibilities

Carry out the daily personal care of patients To take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the Ward/Department Sister/ Charge Nurse. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, significant others, the multi-disciplinary team and support services. To minimise hazards in the working area and report any identifiable hazards to the line manager. To adhere to all safe systems of work applicable to the work area. Assist in the facilitation of a system of clinical supervision. To manage complaints in accordance with the Trusts Complaints Procedure. Conduct staff appraisal using constructive performance review and establish Personal Development Plans Actively assist with the identification of performance issues and initiate action, as required, in conjunction with the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse. Participate in the recruitment and selection of nursing staff. To monitor the clinical activities of the nursing team and support workers in the absence of the Ward/Department Sister / Charge Nurse.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register

Experience Essential

Significant experience at Band 5 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty Experience of managing and leading a clinical area

Skills Essential

Competency in advanced clinical skills including enhanced practice Organisational and time management skills

Attitude, aptitude Essential

Leadership qualities Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH's PRIDE values of People focussed, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence Demonstrates understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
