About this role

Job summary

Ultracardiac Ltd is seeking a motivated and patient focused Assistant Respiratory Physiologist to support the delivery of high quality respiratory diagnostic services across Community Diagnostic Centre locations.

This role plays an important part in improving access to timely diagnostics for NHS patients, supporting early diagnosis and positive patient outcomes. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team, delivering core respiratory investigations while developing your skills within a modern, quality-focused diagnostic service.

This post is ideally suited to an ARTP qualified Spirometry professional who is committed to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

The Assistant Respiratory Physiologist will:

Independently perform Spirometry with or without bronchodilator response and FeNO testingSupport and assist with field exercise testing and sleep study handoutsClean, prepare, and maintain respiratory diagnostic equipmentDownload, process, and support reporting of diagnostic dataProvide interpretation of Spirometry and FeNO results in line with recognised clinical guidelinesManage patient flow, including arrival, preparation, and posttest assessmentEnsure accurate patient identification and completion of pretest documentationRespond to telephone and facetoface patient enquiries, including appointment changesMaintain a clean, safe, and compliant clinical environmentMonitor and manage stock levels of respiratory consumablesWork in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, data protection, health & safety, COSHH, PPE, and information governance standards

Clinical duties

Independently perform Spirometry (with or without bronchodilator response) and FeNO testingSupport and assist with field exercise testing and sleep study handoutsPrepare, clean, and maintain respiratory diagnostic equipment in line with infection prevention and manufacturer guidanceDownload, process, and support reporting of diagnostic dataProvide interpretation of Spirometry and FeNO results using appropriate clinical guidelinesProgress skills towards undertaking additional respiratory investigations, including full pulmonary function testing where appropriateEnsure accurate patient identification and completion of all required pretest documentation and questionnairesAssist with clinical procedures and act as a chaperone where required

Patient care and experience

Deliver patientcentred care, ensuring dignity, privacy, and respect at all timesManage patient flow effectively, including arrival, preparation, testing, and postprocedure assessmentRespond to patient queries via telephone or in person, prioritising clinical enquiries appropriatelyProvide clear explanations to patients regarding procedures and aftercare

Operational and service delivery responsibilities

Support the smooth delivery of services within the Community Diagnostic CentreMaintain a clean, safe, and compliant working environmentMonitor and manage stock levels of respiratory consumables and escalate shortages as requiredContribute to meeting service KPIs, including throughput, quality, and reporting standardsWork flexibly to meet service needs, including additional hours and regional support where required

Work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, policies, and clinical guidelinesComply with Data Protection (GDPR), NHS DSPT requirements, information governance, and confidentiality standardsAdhere to Health & Safety, COSHH, PPE, and infection prevention and control requirementsMaintain mandatory training and professional competenceContribute to audits, quality improvement, and service development where requiredEscalate incidents, risks, or concerns in line with Ultracardiacs governance framework

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

ARTP Spirometry Certification

Desirable

Willingness to work towards full pulmonary function testing competence

Experience Essential

Experience working in a patient-facing healthcare environment Ability to independently perform Spirometry and FeNO testing

Desirable

Experience working in Community Diagnostic Centres
