About this role

Job summary

The post holder will:

1. Be a specialist practitioner with a high degree of autonomy across a variety of settings.

2. Prioritise and manage their own workload and when required offer clinical supervision to less experienced podiatrists and podiatry assistants.

3. Be expected to triage, assess, diagnosis and implement individual treatment plans for a variety of conditions including, long term conditions, neurological conditions, vascular problems, wound management/sharp debridement, biomechanical assessment, manufacture of orthoses and nail surgery. The post holder will also be expected to discharge following a set criteria.

4. Be provided with peer support, continued professional development and regular clinical supervision.

5. Deliver educational packages to podiatry colleagues and the wider healthcare team.

6. Uphold and demonstrate North Cumbria Integrated Care trust values in their day-to-day work.

Main duties of the job

Work with individuals, families, carers, Primary Healthcare Teams and other agencies to undertake a comprehensive assessment based on specialist knowledge of patients / service users in order to inform a personalised care plan/intervention.

Communicate complex sensitive information effectively with all patient groups, service users and carers where there may be difficulties in accepting or understanding information.

Work collaboratively within the team and other stakeholders. This will include forms of verbal and written reports, referrals to other agencies/integrated care communities and partners.

Assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients / service users and carers who may have difficulties understanding complex information.

Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation in line with legal and departmental requirements and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters.

Demonstrates professional sensitivity and empathy during the emotional demand of high exposure to distressing circumstances where there may be difficulties in accepting or understanding.

Skills and Aptitudes Essential

Ability to assess new patients and provide appropriate treatment based on individual need of patients and care planning. Ability to manage designated caseloads. oAbility to manage own time, prioritise tasks, work independently and under own initiative and multi-task. To have good organisational and timekeeping skills. To have a highly developed level of manual dexterity for the use of surgical instruments, including scalpels and needles. To be able to work in restricted positions, particularly when carrying out domiciliary visits to accommodate patient needs. Ability to carry out, analyse and interpret results of various specialist assessments within scope of practice. Able to adapt to change and resolve problems. Work unsupervised. High levels of concentration during treatment and to be able to deal with unexpected situations (e.g. emergencies). Exercise individual responsibility and judgement. Able to remain calm while under pressure. Communicate effectively with colleagues, other health care professional's carers and patients. Receives information concerning patients/clients history, sensitive issues, and some patients with communication difficulties: requires persuasive, reassurance skills. Work as a member of a team. Undertake clinical audits, as necessary to own work/ regularly undertake R&D trials/ clinical trials. Performance manage staff when indicated. Ability to supervise less experienced members of the podiatry team.
