The School of Agricultural Sciences is seeking a dedicated and experienced Dairy Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of our Dairy Learning Centre and provide students with valuable, hands-on learning opportunities. Key ResponsibilitiesManagement and Training of Dairy StaffPrepare and manage shift schedules for dairy personnel, ensuring adequate coverage.Train new staff on protocols and procedures and organize training sessions with suppliers.Facilitate regular team meetings to foster communication and teamwork.Conduct performance reviews in collaboration with the Farm Manager.Sustainable Operation of the Dairy Learning CentreMonitor expenses and revenues to adhere to budgetary guidelines.Maintain a clean and safe environment adhering to biosecurity protocols.Collaborate on nutrient and manure management plans with the Farm Manager.Operation and Optimization of TechnologyManage and optimize technology systems including automated feeding and milking systems.Utilize herd management software to track and enhance herd performance.Student and Industry InteractionProvide guidance and support to the Student Managed Farm (SMF) Dairy Team.Coordinate use of dairy facilities for academic and educational purposes.Foster relationships with industry stakeholders and promote the Dairy programDaily Chores and MilkingConduct milking of dairy cows including sanitization of milking systems, cleaning cows, attaching milking units, and monitoring robotic milking systems.Perform health checks on cows and calves, treat ailments, and manage breeding and calving processes.Manage feeding schedules, movement of cows and calves, and ensure cleanliness of barn and milking parlor.Monitor milk quality and treat for mastitis, as necessary. Job RequirementsPost-secondary agriculture related educationManual labour and shift work is required.Valid Alberta Driver's License.Demonstrated passion for and connection with the Canadian dairy industry.Minimum of five years of experience working in a dairy.Experience managing and supporting a team of people.Strong computer skills.The ability to perform artificial insemination would be an asset. Additional InformationThis is a Full-time Continuing Administrative position, located on the Vermilion campus, commencing as soon as possible.
