The Facilities & Utilities Group Lead is a hands-on technical position responsible for coordinating daily facilities and utility maintenance activities while performing troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance. The Group Lead provides day-to-day work direction, technical guidance, coaching, and training; coordinates contractors and maintenance resources; and communicates equipment risks, performance concerns, and resource needs to management. Formal employment decisions and department-level authority remain with management.
Your Role at a Glance
• Serve as a hands-on group lead by performing skilled troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance while coordinating the daily work of facilities and utilities technicians, contractors, and support personnel
• Assign and prioritize daily maintenance activities based on production needs, equipment condition, safety requirements, and available resources
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain air compressors, compressed-air distribution systems, industrial dryers, air-treatment equipment, evaporators, and cooling systems
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical distribution systems, panels, conduits, motor controls, pumps, HVAC and refrigeration equipment, building utilities, and water, wastewater, and process-utility equipment
• Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance activities and recommend improvements to maintenance plans, job procedures, and inspection frequencies
• Monitor work quality and safe work practices; reinforce company safety, environmental, quality, and operating requirements and promptly escalate concerns
• Support root cause analysis and corrective actions following facility or utility equipment failures
• Monitor spare-parts and tool inventories, initiate replenishment requests, and coordinate outside vendors and contractors as directed
• Monitor equipment performance, energy consumption, reliability, downtime, and other assigned maintenance indicators; report trends and recurring issues to management
• Provide day-to-day technical guidance, on-the-job training, and coaching to maintenance personnel, and provide management with input regarding skill gaps and work performance
• Support capital projects, equipment installations, commissioning activities, and facility improvements
• Create and maintain accurate work orders, maintenance histories, inspection records, and related documentation in the CMMS
• Recommend and support continuous improvement actions that increase reliability, uptime, safety, and operating efficiency
• Follow all company policies, practices, and regulations, including Safety and Quality requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned
What Sets You Apart
• Substantial hands-on experience maintaining industrial utility and facility systems in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Prior experience leading, coordinating, or providing technical direction to maintenance technicians and contractors
• Working knowledge of electrical distribution, motor controls, compressors, dryers, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, pneumatic systems, and water or process-utility equipment
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, HVAC, refrigeration, and utility-system problems
• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, piping diagrams, drawings, and technical procedures
• Experience using a computerized maintenance management system to document work orders, preventive maintenance, equipment history, and parts usage
• Working knowledge of applicable safety and environmental practices, including safe electrical and mechanical maintenance procedures
• Strong communication, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
• Education and training: High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade-school training in industrial maintenance, electrical systems, HVAC, refrigeration, or a related field preferred
• Certifications: Relevant electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial-maintenance licenses and certifications are preferred where applicable
