About this role
The 1st Shift Plant Supervisor leads first-shift production, coaching and developing employees to consistently deliver on safety, quality, and productivity goals. This role builds high-performing teams by selecting top talent, developing employees, and recognizing success, and serves as the first line of support for resolving employee concerns.
Responsibilities
• Mentor, coach, and direct the team to meet or exceed safety, quality, and productivity targets
• Direct all daily production activities across assigned departments, conducting regular floor walk-throughs during the shift to monitor performance and resolve issues in real time
• Partner with Human Resources on interviews and hiring decisions to select top talent
• Champion a safety-first culture by serving on the safety team, enforcing safe work practices, and leading change initiatives
• Establish and maintain training standards for new employees; monitor progress, provide feedback, and arrange additional training as needed
• Conduct probationary and annual performance reviews, providing timely feedback and addressing performance issues constructively
• Manage shift staffing and schedule coverage to meet production demands
• Lead by example, setting the standard for accountability, urgency, teamwork, and respect with employees, leads, fellow supervisors, and managers
• Hold weekly shift huddles to communicate priorities, performance results, and company updates
• Track and act on key production metrics (e.g., equipment performance, scrap, and on-time delivery) to drive continuous improvement
• Lead and sustain 5S and continuous improvement initiatives
• All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field, preferred
• 2–5 years of direct supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
• 3–5 years of narrow web flexographic printing experience
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and computer skills, including MS Office and manufacturing software
Work Environment
• 100% onsite in a manufacturing environment
