POSITION SUMMARY - Tradesperson
The Tradesperson - Stormwater Operations is an entry-level field position within the Stormwater Operations Division, working under the direct supervision of the Crew Leader - Stormwater Operations. This position assists with drainage maintenance, street sweeping, and vegetation management that support Mansfield's stormwater infrastructure.
This is an entry-level field role requiring no prior experience. The employee applies basic knowledge of safety requirements, equipment operation, and tools and materials to complete assigned tasks under direct supervision, with the opportunity to build toward more advanced stormwater operations roles.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Drainage Maintenance Support - Complete assigned tasks with supervision and direction related to storm drain maintenance.
• Street Sweeping - Operate a street sweeper appropriately to maintain clean streets.
• Vegetation Management - Operate outdoor power equipment to maintain vegetation in uneven terrain environments.
• Preventive Maintenance - Use preventive maintenance and repair procedures to extend equipment life and support departmental readiness.
• Tools and Equipment - Demonstrate general use of hand tools and technical skills in the performance of assigned duties.
• Safety - Identify job site hazards and take preventive action to protect crew members and the general public. Maintain a high standard of safety, conduct, and job performance.
• Customer Service - Relay customer complaints to the Crew Leader or Field Supervisor promptly.
• Afterhours Support - This role requires availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays beyond the regular shift as required.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

• No prior experience required; one (1) year of related maintenance experience preferred.
• Department and State of Texas certifications in Public Works-related fields preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY - Technician
The Technician - Stormwater Operations is a field position within the Stormwater Operations Division, working under the supervision of the Crew Leader - Stormwater Operations. This position operates and maintains assigned equipment to perform drainage maintenance, street sweeping, and related field operations that protect Mansfield's stormwater infrastructure.
This is a hands-on field role, applying general knowledge of heavy equipment operation and drainage maintenance practices to keep the stormwater system functioning reliably for the community.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Drainage Maintenance - Operate heavy equipment to complete drainage maintenance needs, including pipe separation repair, channel regrading, inlet and pipe cleaning, and sedimentation removal from culverts.
• Vegetation Management - Operate power equipment to maintain vegetation in drainage areas.
• Equipment Operation - Safely operate and maintain all assigned equipment.
• Collection Center Support - Assist with unloading and sorting materials collected from the public at the Environmental Collection Center.
• Preventive Maintenance - Use preventive maintenance and repair practices to extend equipment life and support departmental readiness.
• Safety - Identify job site hazards and take preventive action to protect staff and the general public.

POSITION SUMMARY - Sr Technician
The Sr Technician - Stormwater Operations is a field position within the Stormwater Operations Division, working under the supervision of the Crew Leader - Stormwater Operations. This position operates and maintains assigned equipment to perform drainage maintenance, street sweeping, and related field operations that protect Mansfield's stormwater infrastructure.
This is a senior-level field role, applying in-depth knowledge of heavy equipment operation and drainage maintenance practices to complete complex work-site decisions, train other crew members, and participate in crew scheduling and planning. This position also fills the role of the Crew Leader - Stormwater Operations during absences.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Drainage Maintenance - Operate heavy equipment to complete drainage maintenance needs, including pipe separation repair, channel regrading, inlet and pipe cleaning, and sedimentation removal from culverts.
• Mentorship - Train crew members in the proper operation of heavy equipment.
• Vegetation Management - Operate outdoor power equipment to maintain drainage vegetation.
• Equipment Operation - Safely operate and maintain all assigned equipment.
• Collection Center Support - Assist with unloading and sorting materials collected from the public at the Environmental Collection Center.
• Leadership - Maintain a high standard of safety, conduct, and performance; promote the division's goals; lead by example; and participate in complex work-site decisions. Assist in maintaining accurate work orders, equipment, and inventory records.
• Preventive Maintenance - Use preventive maintenance and repair programs to extend equipment life and support departmental readiness; and coordinate with other department staff and outside contractors for work related to drainage infrastructure maintenance.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in the field at drainage sites and along the stormwater system, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including extended periods of exposure to inclement weather. This position requires operating heavy equipment and working both independently and as part of a crew to complete drainage maintenance tasks.
The physical demands of this position are consistent with very heavy work. The employee must be able to exert more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and more than 20 pounds of force constantly in the course of moving objects, operating equipment, and performing drainage maintenance tasks.
The employee must be able to move about drainage sites and work areas, including accessing confined spaces such as manholes, crawl spaces, and narrow enclosures; operate heavy equipment and hand tools; move through narrow aisles and passageways; and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and crew members being trained regarding assigned tasks and equipment use.
This position is subject to exposure to extreme heat (temperatures above 100°F for periods exceeding one hour) and extreme cold (temperatures below 32°F for periods exceeding one hour), with consideration for the combined effects of wind and humidity. The employee will regularly encounter indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, elevated noise levels, vibration from equipment operation, and atmospheric conditions including fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
Additional hazards include proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, elevated work areas, and chemicals common to drainage and stormwater operations. These conditions are inherent to the role and represent essential functions of the position. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and provided.
