About this role

Job Summary

The Commercial Driver / CDL Driver is responsible for safely transporting residents, team members, and guests in community vehicles that require a Commercial Driver's License, DOT medical certification, and passenger endorsement. This may include passenger buses or other commercial passenger vehicles used for resident transportation, appointments, community activities, shopping, outings, and other approved destinations.

The role requires safe operation of larger or regulated passenger vehicles, compliance with applicable licensing and safety requirements, passenger assistance, vehicle inspections, transportation documentation, and hospitality-focused service. The Commercial Driver / CDL Driver supports resident safety and comfort while ensuring assigned vehicles are operated and maintained in accordance with traffic laws, DOT-related requirements, community policy, and applicable safety standards.

Shift: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:00 PM

Pay: $24.47-28

Primary Duties & Essential Functions:

· Safely operates community vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver's License, including passenger buses or other regulated passenger vehicles.

· Transports residents, team members, and guests to and from meals, medical appointments, community activities, shopping, errands, outings, and other approved destinations.

· Complies with applicable CDL, passenger endorsement, DOT medical certification, traffic safety, vehicle operation, and community transportation requirements.

· Conducts required vehicle safety checks, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and promptly reports defects, safety concerns, damage, needed repairs, or maintenance issues.

· Assists residents and passengers safely in and out of vehicles, including providing assistance with mobility devices when appropriate.

· Operates wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement systems when assigned and trained to do so.

· Follows established transportation schedules and coordinates pick-up and drop-off needs with residents, supervisors, and other appropriate personnel.

· Maintains accurate transportation logs, trip records, mileage records, inspection forms, maintenance reports, and other required documentation.

· Keeps assigned vehicles clean, fueled, orderly, and ready for safe operation; may assist with routine washing, cleaning, and interior upkeep.

· Observes residents during transport and reports changes in condition, safety concerns, incidents, or unusual circumstances to the appropriate supervisor.

· Responds to resident and team member inquiries related to transportation services within scope of authority and refers unresolved issues to the supervisor.

· Provides courteous, respectful, and professional service to residents, guests, team members, and external contacts.

Decision Authority & Scope

· Operates under general supervision and follows established transportation schedules, routes, safety procedures, and community policies.

· Uses judgment to respond to traffic, weather, resident mobility needs, route changes, and other routine transportation situations.

· Refers vehicle safety concerns, resident concerns, complaints, incidents, and unusual circumstances to the supervisor.

· Has authority to delay or stop vehicle operation when safety concerns, vehicle defects, unsafe passenger conditions, or environmental hazards create an immediate risk.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• One to three years of driving experience preferred; commercial passenger driving experience strongly preferred.

• Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License appropriate for the vehicle operated.

• Must possess and maintain required passenger endorsement.

• Must possess and maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate, when required.

• Must maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with organization standards and applicable licensing requirements.

• Must meet applicable DOT, DMV, medical certification, and employer driver monitoring requirements, including participation in any required DMV Employer Pull Notice or similar driver record monitoring program.

• Must successfully complete any required road test, vehicle safety training, wheelchair lift training, passenger assistance training, and community-specific transportation training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience driving passenger buses or commercial passenger vehicles.

• Prior senior living, healthcare, hospitality, shuttle, transit, or paratransit experience.

• Experience assisting older adults or individuals with mobility devices.

• Knowledge of DOT-related driver safety expectations, vehicle inspections, and passenger transportation practices.

• CPR, first aid, or other safety-related training, if applicable to community practice.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in community vehicles, resident areas, parking lots, entrances, roadways, and other indoor and outdoor settings.

• Requires driving for extended periods and working in varying weather, lighting, traffic, and road conditions.

• Requires frequent sitting, occasional standing and walking, and frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and turning while assisting passengers or operating vehicles.

• Requires the ability to assist residents in and out of vehicles and support safe use of mobility devices, wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement systems when applicable.

• Requires the ability to push, pull, lift, or carry items such as mobility devices, packages, groceries, luggage, or related materials within safe limits.

• Requires visual and auditory ability sufficient to safely operate commercial passenger vehicles, monitor traffic, communicate with passengers, and respond to environmental conditions.
