Level 3 IT Solutons Technician Apprenticeship – St Peters CofE Academy
This apprenticeship offers hands-on experience supporting the Academy's IT systems, helping to maintain a secure and efficient digital learning environment for staff and students.
The Role:
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff, helping to create a secure and efficient digital learning environment.
Apprenticeship Overview:
• Salary: £8.00 per hour, automatic pay increase after one year on programme for 19+ year olds • Working Week: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 16.00pm (30 minute lunch break) • Hours: 37 hours per week • Duration: 18 months • Level 3 IT Solutions Technician qualification Apprenticeship Standard qualification • Online training supported by our dedicated tutor • Location: Fenton Manor, Fenton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, ST4 2RR
Qualifications:
• GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above essential
Main Duties:
The duties may change over time as requirements and circumstances change. The post-holder may reasonably be expected to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility from time to time.
Duties will include:
• To provide day to day support, contributing to ensuring effective and efficient operation of the IT systems, for administration, and teaching and learning, throughout the Academy
• To operate the IT helpdesk system, ensuring that records are kept of issues identified, and that suitable solutions are recommended, seeking guidance from line manager where needed
• To carry out routine IT tasks and activities as delegated by the Line Manager
• To provide support for IT hardware, software, network and operating system problems and queries for both staff and pupils.
• To assist in installing and maintaining the Academy’s hardware to include all network/servers/workstations/data projectors/ printers and teaching aides
• To assist teachers and pupils within the classrooms as requested by via the line manager
• To provide ICT technical support for Academy events and activities including internal events such as staff briefings, staff training
• To support the use of online learning systems and platforms, as well as online media and marketing activities
• To assist with the support and maintenance of ICT technical requirements which may include hardware installation, infrastructure change and/or software installation and updates.
• To carry out routine maintenance tasks in accordance with Academy protocols
• To ensure backup procedures are followed
• To assist in monitoring and identifying threats to information security, including the student misuse of computers, and to report these to the relevant parties

Desired skills, qualities and qualifications
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems
Basic understanding of network infrastructures and wireless networks or willing to learn
Basic knowledge of cloud services
Ability to maintain high degree of customer service and communicate effectively with staff, students and outside agencies
Good technical skills and communication skills
Knowledge of mobile devices including Apple and Android
Knowledge of Google Workspace

Experience
Some experience of setting up or maintaining a variety of networked hardware – PCs, printers, laptops etc.
An understanding of the principles of Keeping Children Safe in Education and a commitment to ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all children Experience of working in a similar role
Experience of working in a school environment
Experience of using a VLE, online learning platform and/or intranet
Training and Development:
As an apprentice, you will receive support through both on-the-job learning and formal training as part of your apprenticeship programme. This will typically include:
• Study towards a Level 3 IT Solutions Technician qualification · Hands-on experience supporting IT systems across multiple schools · Mentoring from experienced IT professionals · Regular progress reviews and development support
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The successful candidate will complete a Level 3 IT Solutions Technician Apprenticeship.
• Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship programme. Depending on the apprentice's needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship? Potential progression into permanent IT support roles within the Trust or wider IT sector, subject to performance and organisational needs.
