About this role
The Mill Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading all mechanical, electrical, and reliability maintenance activities for the process plant (crushing, grinding, gravity, CIL/CIP, and associated tailings and reagent systems) at the Oko West operation. This role ensures maximum equipment availability, safety compliance, and cost-effective maintenance execution while supervising maintenance personnel.
Working Conditions
The Mill Maintenance Superintendent is a site-based role supporting maintenance activities at GMIN’s Oko West operation. The role requires the ability to work effectively in a mine-site and processing-plant environment, provide strong safety leadership, and operate effectively around production equipment and maintenance activities. The position involves a combination of regular office work and time within production areas, where appropriate PPE and strict adherence to health and safety requirements are mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Management and Leadership
•
• Lead and supervise all mill maintenance activities, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient equipment performance.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies aligned with production objectives and operational requirements.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to maintenance supervisors, tradespeople, and contractors.
• Establish clear performance expectations and monitor departmental productivity.
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
2. Budget and Resource Management
•
• Prepare and manage the mill maintenance department's operating and capital expenditure budgets.
• Monitor maintenance costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure effective resource utilization.
• Coordinate the procurement of critical spare parts, tools, materials, and maintenance services.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels of critical equipment components and consumables.
• Evaluate contractor performance and ensure contracted work meets company standards.
3. Reporting and Performance Monitoring

• Prepare regular maintenance performance reports for management.
• Monitor key performance indicators, including:
• Equipment availability and reliability.
• Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
• Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
Requirements
Experience
• Minimum 7–10 years of maintenance experience in a mineral processing plant/mill environment, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
Education/Certification/Designation
• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent trade certification with extensive experience).
Technical Skills/Knowledge
• Strong knowledge of gold processing equipment (crushers, mills, thickeners, CIL/CIP circuits, pumps, conveyors).
• Experience with CMMS platforms (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Pronto).
• Working knowledge of reliability maintenance strategies (RCM, TPM, condition monitoring).
• Strong leadership, organizational, and budget management skills.
• Experience in remote-site or developing-country mining operations preferred.
