Faculty Position – Ophthalmology McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston Harris Health / County Hospital System Cornea/Anterior Segment Specialist McGovern Medical School, Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible ophthalmologist with fellowship training in Cornea/Anterior Segment to join our growing academic department. Preference will be given to individuals who have completed an ASCRS- or AAO-approved cornea fellowship. This full-time faculty position offers opportunities for clinical practice, research, teaching, and leadership. Academic rank ( Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) will be based on experience and accomplishments. We are particularly interested in a mid- or senior-career ophthalmologist with a strong clinical and academic record who is eager to develop an established cornea/anterior segment program. The successful candidate will have to develop a meaningful research program, with departmental support for scholarly and investigative work. Candidates with an exceptional academic record and demonstrated leadership may also be considered for an endowed professorship or chair. Position Key Accountabilities This is an academic appointment with clinical, research, teaching, and leadership opportunities and expectations. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a busy clinical practice in Cornea/Anterior Segment at our primary Texas Medical Center (TMC) location. The position offers the opportunity to work with a broad patient population and collaborate with faculty across the Department of Ophthalmology and McGovern Medical School. Academic responsibilities include teaching and supervising ophthalmology residents and fellows, participating in departmental educational activities, and pursuing scholarly work. Depending on experience and interests, the successful candidate may also have opportunities for clinical, educational, or departmental leadership. Other clinical and educational responsibilities may include supervising residents and/or fellows at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, a major site for our residency education that serves a broad patient population.

Qualifications

• Completion of fellowship training or equivalent in Cornea/Anterior Segment • Board certified or board eligible in ophthalmology • Eligible for a medical license in the State of Texas • Demonstrated record of scholarly activity, with research experience strongly preferred for candidates at the Associate Professor or Professor level • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Interest in teaching, mentorship, and academic collaboration • Potential for leadership within the Department of Ophthalmology Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of an ASCRS- or AAO-approved cornea fellowship
