Student Network Support Assistant

Position Overview: The IT Enterprise Networking team is seeking a student employee to assist with day-to-day network operations while gaining hands-on experience supporting a large enterprise network. The position will work alongside network engineering staff and assist with equipment staging, documentation, ticket triage, basic troubleshooting, and other network support activities.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in information technology, networking, or related technical fields and a basic knowledge of computer networking concepts, hardware, or troubleshooting.

Job Description: 30% - Network Equipment & Staging Support • Assist with staging, organizing, labeling, inventorying, and preparing network equipment for deployment. • Maintain organized network equipment, spare hardware, staging areas, and related inventory. 30% - Ticket Triage & Basic Troubleshooting • Review incoming service requests and gather information needed for troubleshooting. • Perform approved basic troubleshooting and document results. • Escalate issues to network engineering staff when appropriate. 25% - Documentation • Assist with creating and maintaining network documentation, procedures, equipment records, and other technical information. 15% - Network Operations & Project Support • Assist network engineering staff with operational tasks, projects, and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: • Strong communication skills, as evidenced by application materials. • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, document work, and maintain attention to detail, as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications: • Coursework or experience related to information technology, computer science, networking, or a related field, as evidenced by application materials. • Experience with technical support, ticketing systems, inventory management, or technical documentation, as evidenced by application materials. • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, as evidenced by application materials.

Position Requirements: During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions: (1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
