Salary: £53,000 - 93,000 per year
Requirements: Demonstrated track record designing and building enterprise data and AI platforms at scale, used across an organisation to create significant value and deliver efficiencies.Strategic and operational experience setting architecture standards, reference designs, and technical direction in data and AI.Deep hands-on engineering experience in Python, SQL, APIs, software engineering, and LLMs, including establishing patterns and training and developing others as a subject matter expert.Production experience managing data and AI platforms, architectures, and engineering at scale.Experience with enterprise data platforms and leading data governance, data quality, security, and privacy in partnership with the data and AI governance lead.Hands-on experience with Azure data and AI tools such as Azure AI Foundry, Azure Machine Learning, and Microsoft Fabric, or equivalent tools on another platform.Experience leading the run and business-as-usual operations of a data and AI platform, including incident management, triage, SLAs, response, stability, and high uptime.Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical decisions and priorities to senior executives and business leaders.Strong judgment and a track record of determining where AI should and should not be used.Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, data, or analytics, or equivalent senior hands-on experience.Ability to present to senior business executives and technology leaders, and to lead workshops and steering groups. Responsibilities: Own the strategic direction of the data and AI platform, including target-state architecture, governance models, security standards, and scalability decisions aligned with business strategy.Design how governed data is modelled and exposed so AI agents can access it reliably, and establish and implement standards for the data and AI interface.Lead the design and build of AI agents and services, including evaluation frameworks, testing standards, and monitoring.Set technical standards and patterns for the team, and train and develop staff in delivering agentic AI solutions for data and analytics and the platform.Provide technical leadership in Python, SQL, software engineering, code development, and LLMs; build and review production code to deliver quality engineering solutions.Build and own the platform tools, technologies, and patterns that enable the team to deliver efficiently and at scale.Identify, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies, tools, and techniques, bringing new capabilities into the team and evolving our global platform and data and AI products.Establish and lead cost management for the data and AI platform, design architecture for optimal efficiency, embed best practices, and lead work with vendors and external reviewers.Partner with Cyber Security to lead safe delivery end to end across the platform, including work with end users.Influence senior IT and business leaders by presenting strategic options, advising on technical priorities, and guiding decisions about platform, software engineering, and AI investments.
