About this role
Build at Auger Auger is the autonomous operating system for supply chains — the layer that finally allows disparate systems like ERP, WMS, and TMS to work together instead of against each other. Most supply chain software surfaces problems and waits for a human to act. Auger solves them. Our AI detects disruptions, evaluates trade-offs, and executes decisions automatically — moving from signal to action in seconds, not weeks. We eliminate the Coordination Tax: the billions in capital and time lost when disconnected systems force the best people in the business to become the Human API between planning and execution. At Auger, we design autonomy into our systems. We expect the same from our people. That means: Clear ownership, not decision by consensus First principles over inherited patterns Shipping systems, not slide decks Fast feedback from reality, not opinions If you want to build, ship, and iterate against reality, Auger is for you. Auger was founded by Dave Clark and is backed by $150M from Oak HC/FT and Eclipse Capital. Our team works from Bellevue, WA and Dallas, TX. About the role We are hiring a hands-on VP/Head of Finance to build the financial and operating discipline required to make Auger an efficient, profitable business. This is a deeply operational role. You will build the metrics, processes, systems, and accountability that connect how our platform runs to how our business performs. You will work closely with engineering, product, commercial, and customer teams to understand the economics of delivering autonomous work, and improve those economics as we scale. You should be comfortable building a financial model, investigating compute costs, tracing customer usage through billing, challenging a pricing assumption, and turning an operating review into decisions with clear owners. Your mandate is to make the business measurable, make the economics understandable, and help teams act on what the numbers reveal. Expect incomplete data, undefined metrics, and pricing we are still learning. You build the answers yourself, working directly with the founders and engineers and supply chain experts who built the platform, and you build your team as the work justifies the growth. What you will own Build a trusted view of business performance Define the metrics that matter, with clear owners and sources, and connect infrastructure consumption, platform activity, contracts, billing, and financial results in one set of numbers teams can trust and trace. Turn reporting into action: identify issues, quantify their impact, assign follow-through, and verify results. Understand and improve platform economics Build a detailed understanding of the costs of delivering Auger's platform to our enterprise customers, including compute, model inference, storage, networking, third-party services, implementation, and ongoing support. Establish meaningful unit economics for the work the platform performs, connecting resource consumption to completed workflows, executed decisions, and customer value. Partner with engineering to evaluate capacity, architecture, vendor commitments, and build-versus-buy decisions. Make customer growth economically sound Make implementation effort, time to value, cost to serve, gross margin, net revenue retention, and CAC payback visible and actionable. Measure how customer economics change as additional solutions reuse what Auger's platform already understands about a business. Identify customers and contracts with unsustainable economics. Own pricing and packaging Own pricing strategy and the economics behind it, so every price reflects the value we deliver and what it costs us to deliver it. Build a deal-review process that holds each contract to those economics. Recommend how pricing should evolve as customers adopt more solutions and the platform reuses what it already knows. Establish disciplined planning and execution Own the operating model, budget, rolling forecast, cash forecast, and scenario planning. Establish weekly operating reviews and monthly financial reviews that explain performance, surface risks, and drive decisions. Build practical processes for purchasing, vendor management, spending approvals, and investment evaluation. Build a dependable finance function Own financial reporting, the close, and controls. Reconcile the books, operating dashboards, billing systems, and cash, and coordinate tax and compliance specialists. Deliver clear reporting to leadership and the board on ARR, net revenue retention, gross margin, burn, cash requirements, and risks. Build the team, systems, and automation required to support Auger as it scales. What you bring Experience owning operational finance at a SaaS or enterprise software company, ideally one with usage-based pricing and significant cloud or AI infrastructure costs. A record of building financial models, operating metrics, reporting, and processes from the ground up. Strong command of SaaS metrics (ARR, net revenue retention, gross margin, CAC payback), unit economics, cost allocation, pricing, capacity planning, and cash management. You work directly with detailed data in SQL and business intelligence tools, and with engineering on compute consumption, model costs, instrumentation, and billing. Sound accounting judgment, including revenue recognition for subscription and usage-based contracts, and the ability to oversee a reliable close and financial controls. Evidence that your work has produced measurable improvements in efficiency, margins, or cash performance. The judgment to introduce structure that helps people execute without creating unnecessary bureaucracy. How you work You take ownership from identifying a problem through implementing a solution and verifying the result. You get close to the operational details, make complicated economics understandable, and challenge assumptions constructively. You build processes people actually use. You know which decisions require precision and which require a timely, well-supported judgment. You hold yourself accountable to the same standard Auger brings to its customers: doing the work and delivering measurable results.
