Position Summary The Service Supervisor supports the daily operation of the front end by providing leadership and direction to associates while ensuring customers receive friendly, efficient, and professional service. This position helps maintain smooth checkout operations, coordinates front-end coverage, assists with customer concerns, and ensures company procedures and service standards are consistently followed. Key Responsibilities • Provide leadership and direction to cashiers, courtesy clerks, self-checkout attendants, and other front-end associates. • Deliver friendly, professional, and efficient customer service. • Monitor checkout lanes and customer traffic to maintain efficient service and minimize wait times. • Coordinate front-end associate assignments based on customer volume and business needs. • Assist with scheduling breaks and lunches while maintaining appropriate front-end coverage. • Provide register assistance and open additional checkout lanes when needed. • Monitor self-checkout operations and ensure customers receive prompt assistance. • Assist customers with questions, price discrepancies, refunds, and other service-related concerns. • Resolve customer concerns professionally and involve management when additional assistance is required. • Assist with cash-handling procedures, register tills, pickups, and other front-end financial responsibilities as assigned. • Help ensure associates follow proper cash-handling and register procedures. • Maintain clean, organized, and properly supplied checkout lanes, customer service areas, self-checkout stations, and store entrances. • Coordinate courtesy clerk responsibilities, including bagging, cart retrieval, carry-outs, cleaning, and other assigned duties. • Monitor shopping cart availability and ensure carts are retrieved as needed. • Provide training, coaching, and ongoing support to front-end associates. • Ensure associates follow customer service expectations, company policies, and workplace safety procedures. • Communicate equipment issues, staffing concerns, service opportunities, and other operational needs to store leadership. • Assist with opening and closing front-end responsibilities as assigned. • Support store leadership with additional operational responsibilities when needed. • Support other areas of the store as necessary and contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment. Leadership Expectations • Lead by example and maintain a professional, positive, and customer-focused attitude. • Provide associates with clear direction and follow up to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed. • Maintain a visible leadership presence throughout the front end. • Coach associates on customer service, productivity, accuracy, and department expectations. • Recognize strong performance and help identify opportunities for associate development. • Promote teamwork, accountability, urgency, and consistent customer service. • Respond quickly to changes in customer traffic and adjust front-end coverage accordingly. • Maintain composure and professionalism when handling difficult customer situations. • Communicate effectively with associates, department leadership, and store management. • Help create a welcoming environment for both customers and associates. Qualifications • Previous retail, grocery, customer service, or related experience preferred. • Previous front-end, cashier, or leadership experience preferred. • Strong customer service and communication skills. • Ability to provide direction and support to multiple associates. • Basic understanding of cash-handling and register procedures preferred. • Strong organizational and time-management skills. • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. • Ability to resolve customer concerns calmly and professionally. • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team. • Must be dependable, professional, organized, and able to demonstrate good judgment. • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. • Ability to bend, reach, squat, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions. • Ability to lift and move products, supplies, and front-end equipment as required. • Ability to push and retrieve shopping carts as needed. • Ability to move throughout the store frequently to assist customers and associates. • Ability to perform register, customer service, and other front-end duties based on business needs.
