Position Summary The Service Operations Assistant supports the Service Operations Manager in overseeing front-end operations and delivering a positive customer experience. This position helps coordinate associates, maintain efficient checkout operations, support customer service, and ensure front-end standards are consistently maintained. The Service Operations Assistant serves as a key leader on the front end and provides leadership coverage when needed. Key Responsibilities • Assist the Service Operations Manager with the daily operation and performance of the front end. • Provide friendly, professional, and efficient customer service. • Support, coach, and train front-end associates to ensure consistent execution of service standards. • Help assign daily responsibilities and provide direction to cashiers, courtesy clerks, and other front-end associates. • Monitor checkout lanes and customer traffic to maintain efficient service and minimize customer wait times. • Open or close additional checkout lanes based on customer volume and business needs. • Assist customers with questions, concerns, refunds, price discrepancies, and other service-related needs. • Help ensure registers, self-checkout areas, customer service areas, and entrances remain clean, organized, and properly supplied. • Monitor self-checkout operations and provide assistance to customers as needed. • Assist with associate breaks, lunches, and front-end coverage to maintain efficient operations throughout the shift. • Support cash-handling procedures and help ensure company policies are followed. • Assist with register pickups, tills, cash accountability, and other front-end financial procedures as assigned. • Help maintain accurate pricing and address price discrepancies according to established procedures. • Monitor courtesy clerk responsibilities, including bagging, cart retrieval, carry-outs, cleaning, and other assigned duties. • Help maintain adequate shopping cart levels and overall cleanliness of the store entrance and front-end areas. • Respond to customer concerns professionally and work toward timely and appropriate resolutions. • Assist with opening and closing front-end responsibilities as assigned. • Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and operational standards. • Communicate staffing concerns, equipment issues, service opportunities, and operational needs to the Service Operations Manager or store leadership. • Step into additional leadership responsibilities when the Service Operations Manager is unavailable. • Support other areas of the store as needed and contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment. Leadership Expectations • Lead by example and maintain a professional, positive, and customer-focused attitude. • Provide associates with clear direction, expectations, and follow-up. • Help develop associates through training, coaching, recognition, and ongoing feedback. • Promote teamwork, accountability, urgency, and excellent customer service. • Maintain visibility on the front end and respond quickly to customer and associate needs. • Monitor front-end conditions and adjust associate assignments based on customer traffic and business needs. • Help maintain a welcoming and professional environment for customers and associates. • Address operational concerns promptly and communicate significant issues to store leadership. • Support consistent execution of company policies and front-end procedures. Qualifications • Previous retail, grocery, customer service, or related experience preferred. • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred. • Strong customer service and communication skills. • Strong organizational and time-management skills. • Ability to provide direction and support to multiple associates in a fast-paced environment. • Ability to handle customer concerns calmly and professionally. • Basic understanding of cash-handling and front-end procedures preferred. • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and respond quickly to changing business needs. • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team. • Must be dependable, organized, professional, and able to demonstrate good judgment. • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. • Ability to bend, reach, squat, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions. • Ability to lift and move products, supplies, and front-end equipment as required. • Ability to push and retrieve shopping carts as needed. • Ability to move throughout the store frequently to assist customers and associates. • Ability to perform register, customer service, and other front-end duties as business needs require.
