Main duties of the job

As a Bank Consultant Anaesthetist, you will provide Consultant-level anaesthetic care across elective surgical services at The Bromsgrove Hospital.

The role will involve:

Providing safe, high-quality anaesthetic care to patients undergoing planned procedures.

Undertaking appropriate pre-operative assessment and determining patients' suitability for anaesthesia.

Developing individualised anaesthetic plans based on each patient's clinical needs.

Providing peri-operative anaesthetic management and supporting patients through recovery.

Working closely with Consultant Surgeons, nursing teams and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.

Recognising and managing any anaesthetic or clinical complications appropriately.

Maintaining high standards of patient safety, clinical documentation and professional practice.

Participating in clinical governance and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.

Communicating effectively with patients and colleagues throughout the patient journey.

Job description Job responsibilities

As a Bank Consultant Anaesthetist, you will provide Consultant-level anaesthetic care to patients undergoing elective procedures at The Bromsgrove Hospital.

You will have responsibility for delivering safe, effective and patient-centred anaesthetic care throughout the peri-operative pathway, working closely with Consultant Surgeons, nursing teams, theatre staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.

The role is suited to a Consultant Anaesthetist who values clinical autonomy, high standards of patient care and a collaborative approach to working.

Key ResponsibilitiesProvide Consultant-level anaesthetic services for elective surgical procedures.

Undertake comprehensive pre-operative assessment of patients and identify relevant medical or anaesthetic risks.

Review patients' medical history, medications, investigations and relevant clinical information to determine suitability for anaesthesia.

Develop appropriate, individualised anaesthetic plans in discussion with the patient and surgical team.

Explain proposed anaesthetic techniques, risks and alternatives to patients and obtain appropriate consent.

Deliver general, regional and/or other appropriate forms of anaesthesia within your scope of practice and clinical competence.

Monitor patients appropriately throughout the peri-operative period and respond promptly to any changes in clinical condition.

Provide appropriate post-operative anaesthetic care and support safe transfer to the recovery team.

Recognise, manage and escalate anaesthetic complications or unexpected clinical situations appropriately.

Work collaboratively with Consultant Surgeons, theatre practitioners, nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Provide appropriate clinical advice and support to colleagues where required.

Ensure clear, accurate and timely clinical documentation.

Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives and colleagues throughout the patient journey.

Contribute to maintaining high standards of clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement.

Work within Optimised Care's policies, procedures and governance arrangements.

Maintain professional standards in accordance with GMC requirements and relevant professional guidance.

Maintain continuing professional development and clinical competence.

Professional RequirementsThe successful applicant will need to hold appropriate GMC registration and a licence to practise, with specialist registration in Anaesthetics or appropriate recognised specialist-level experience.

You will have current Consultant-level experience and be confident providing anaesthetic care within your clinical scope of practice, particularly within elective surgical pathways.

You will be expected to maintain appropriate professional indemnity arrangements, continuing professional development and clinical competence relevant to the work undertaken.

Strong communication skills, sound clinical judgement and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team are important to the role.

The successful applicant will be required to provide appropriate evidence of professional registration, qualifications, experience and right to work as part of Optimised Care's credentialing and onboarding process.

Experience Essential

GMC registration with a licence to practise. Specialist registration in Anaesthetics, or appropriate recognised specialist-level experience. Current experience working at Consultant level. Demonstrable experience providing anaesthetic care for elective surgery. Appropriate clinical competence relevant to the procedures undertaken at the hospital. Evidence of maintaining continuing professional development. Strong understanding of patient safety and clinical governance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to make safe, evidence-based clinical decisions. Appropriate professional indemnity arrangements for the work undertaken.
