Job summary
Ashington House Surgery is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Phlebotomist to join our busy primary care team for 25 hours per week.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is already experienced and confident in taking blood samples and who enjoys delivering high-quality patient care in a professional, patient-focused environment.

Main duties of the job
Perform venepuncture safely and efficiently in accordance with clinical guidelines. Identify, label and process blood samples accurately. Ensure specimens are handled and transported appropriately. Maintain accurate patient records. Provide reassurance and support to patients during procedures. Adhere to infection prevention and control procedures. Work collaboratively with clinicians, nurses and administrative staff. Maintain equipment and stock levels within the phlebotomy area.

The post holder works under indirect supervision and undertakes task and duties delegated by the partners or a suitably qualified regulated professional. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients and following policy and procedures.
To support the practice to ensure compliance with its statutory and regulatory obligations, such as but not limited to the Care Quality Commission and Data Protection Act 2018(GDPR)
Job Responsibilities
Clinical
Undertake, record, and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training:
Venepuncture
Blood Pressure
Prepare and maintain environments and equipment.
Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence.
To record all consultations within the clinical system
Respond to medical emergencies.
Ensure that the principles of Infection Control are always adhered to.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
The successful candidate will: Have proven experience in venepuncture/phlebotomy with a certificate of undertaking a formal venepuncture course. Be confident working independently. Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Be organised and able to manage their workload effectively. Have a caring, professional and patient-centred approach. Understand the importance of confidentiality and data protection. Knowledge & Experience: Good general education with demonstrable ability in Mathematics and English Language Experience of maintaining and manipulating computerised and/or paper-based data/information Ability to handle face to face in a professional manner Ability to organise and prioritise work, and to adhere to deadlines and targets Ability to handle information securely and confidentially Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team Ability to work on own initiative dealing with confidential issues Able to work efficiently and with a great degree of accuracy Aptitude to adapt working style to meet the needs of the patient Aptitude to use standard office equipment efficiently Understanding of infection prevention and control procedures. Knowledge of patient confidentiality, data protection and safeguarding principles. Professional, caring and compassionate approach. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
