About this role

Job summary

The Newcastle Hospitals and Community Services Staff Bank provide temporary staff to various wards and departments across the Trust.

We are seeking Porters & Security Officers to join our Staff Bank supporting service delivery within our organisation.

Main duties of the job

Security Officers provide response to security incidents/alarms & fire calls throughout the hospital sites. Some calls will involve violent and/or aggressive scenarios. In addition, the role includes strategic site patrols, handling of cash, dealing with and assisting the general public, traffic management plus a range of additional duties.

Porters carry out a variety of essential tasks including; patient movement, collection of all waste streams, delivery & collection of linen and many other important duties that require a great deal of physical dexterity and the ability to function in a very fast paced and demanding environment. Many of the tasks can be particularly repetitive and physically demanding.

All posts are subject to NHS pre-employment checks including occupational health clearance and DBS (where appropriate). All pay progression is conditional upon a positive outcome at annual appraisal. All successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month's pay. You will be required to sign a DBS payment form which will be issued to you as part of your recruitment process. All new employees will be required to attend the Trust induction programme and complete appropriate mandatory training requirements. To assist Trust management in the provision of effective / efficient Portering Service using all equipment / resources available to the department. To provide essential Fire, Rescue Team response to Helipad as required. Person Specification

Skills Essential

The post holder should be able to communicate well, have good writing skills and be able to work alone or as part of a team

Knowledge Desirable

Use of electrical equipment including driving of tugs and use of hand-barrows Knowledge of Trust sites an advantage Knowledge of Portering procedures / systems of operation

Experience Desirable

Experience in customer service Portering / Security experience Previous firefighting experience Experience in portering tasks including Post sorting

Qualifications Desirable

NVQ 2 or similar qualifications (educated to Secondary Modern/Comprehensive School level) Full UK driving licence
