About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated, highly experienced and passionate Physiotherapist to clinically work in the Prehabilitation and Colorectal Surgical Team at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, working alongside the Highly Specialist Physiotherapist. The post offers a variety of opportunities to participate in our exciting improvement plans and regular team trainings with the wider Respiratory team.

We are looking for an innovative, patient focused therapist with a passion for the management of patients with complex surgeries (including complex cancer surgeries) and providing highly skilled care to the Elective Surgical wards. You will have a wide range of clinical experience and the leadership qualities needed to support a team of physiotherapists/occupational therapists and integrated therapy assistants to consistently deliver safe, personal and effective care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

To assist the Highly Specialist Physiotherapist occasionally working as a member of the Prehabilitation multidisciplinary team (MDT), attending the ward and wider MDTs, and attending prehabilitation clinics.

To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), assessing and treating inpatients in the colorectal surgical physiotherapy service with complex surgical and/or respiratory disability, maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records.

To assess and treat patients requiring physical rehabilitation both before and after complex surgeries and maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records as per protocol for the Pre -Rehabilitation role

To independently manage respiratory complications in surgical patients as required.

To support the Highly Specialist Physiotherapist and in gathering and analysing information to facilitate small research projects and audits

Person Specification

Eduaction/Qualifications Essential

Relevant Degree with Professional Registration Attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to role

Desirable

Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. Involvement in special interest groups.

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Minimum of 15 months previous experience as a band 5/junior physiotherapist Practical experience working in a broad range of experience in specialist areas of work such as orthopaedics, in-patient elderly care, neurology, respiratory, and musculoskeletal. Previous management ofpatients following abdominal/ colorectal surgery Experience of working as part of a Physiotherapy team and or multidisciplinary team. Experience of working on-call Previous experience of audit and/or service development NHS Experience as a qualified therapist

Desirable

Previous experience at Band 6 level Experience of managing patients following complex colorectal surgery or experience in oncology Evidence of Leadership Courses /Training Supervision of student or physiotherapy assistants.

Skills, Abilities and attitude Essential

Demonstrates reflective practice and self directed learning. Able to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner Mentions role and has read the JD clearly

Desirable

Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate. Competent IT skills Experience of audit / research process
