About this role

Job summary

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is seeking up to two Associate Non-Executive Directors (Associate NEDs) to join its Board. This is an exceptional opportunity to share your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of patients and communities across Yorkshire and the Humber, while helping to shape the future direction of the Trust.

The Trust is particularly interested in candidates who can bring professional expertise and/or lived experience in clinical services (primary care, urgent and emergency care, nursing, allied health professionals, and clinical commissioning), and health and care technology (digital transformation, artificial intelligence or cyber security).

Associate NEDs play an important role in supporting Board succession planning, providing independent perspectives and contributing to Board discussions and decision-making. Successful candidates may also be considered for appointment as a full Non-Executive Director within two years should a vacancy arise and they meet the essential criteria.

Job description Job responsibilities

There are vacancies for up to two Associate Non-executive Directors at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust. This is an exceptional opportunity to share your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of people served by the Trust.

The Associate NED role is used successfully in the NHS to support Board succession planning and to achieve a balance of Board level skills. Associate NEDs cannot participate in any formal vote at Board, but we welcome their views and perspectives, particularly on the impact of our decisions on our patients.

The successful candidates for the Associate role will be appointed by the Trust but may also be considered for appointment as a full NED of the Board in future (within two years from initial appointment) should a vacancy arise and they meet the essential criteria.

You will need to demonstrate a genuine commitment to patient care, patient experience, and the promotion of excellent health care services. The Trust is open minded about the knowledge, skills and experience you can offer. The Trust is particularly interested in candidates who can bring professional expertise and / or lived experience in respect of the following:

Clinical services, including primary care, urgent and emergency care, nursing, allied health professionals, and clinical commissioning

Health and care technology; digital transformation; Artificial Intelligence; cyber security.

Person Specification

Additional criteria Essential

Applicants should ideally live or work in Yorkshire, or within reasonable travelling distance of Yorkshire, or have strong connections with the area and its communities. On average the time commitment for this role will require the equivalent to 1.5 to 2 days a month, however this may vary and a flexible approach should be taken. They must be able to travel to our sites

Experience Essential

Given the significant public profile and responsibility members of NHS Boards hold, it is vital that those appointed inspire confidence of the public, patients and NHS staff at all times. NHS England and the Trust make a number of specific background checks to ensure that those we appoint are fit and proper people to hold these important roles.
