About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and inspirational midwife to join Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust as a Matron.

This senior leadership role is pivotal in delivering high-quality, safe and compassionate care for women and families. The successful candidate will provide visible professional midwifery leadership, promoting excellence in clinical practice, service delivery and patient experience across maternity services.

Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues and departmental leaders, the Matron will be responsible for driving quality, safety and performance, ensuring that care is consistently delivered to the highest standards. The role requires a highly motivated individual with a passion for innovation, continuous improvement and empowering teams to deliver outstanding outcomes.

Main duties of the job

As Matron, you will provide strong clinical and operational leadership, supporting staff to deliver safe, effective and woman-centred care. You will be highly visible and accessible to women, families and colleagues, fostering a culture of compassion, professionalism and accountability.

You will lead on the delivery and monitoring of clinical quality standards, patient safety initiatives, infection prevention and control, and quality improvement programmes. Working closely with clinical and operational teams, you will proactively address challenges, drive service improvement and ensure that women and families receive care that is respectful, dignified and responsive to their individual needs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, a commitment to staff development and wellbeing, and the ability to influence and inspire others to achieve excellence.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will have responsibility for the delivery of the five corporate aims of the Trust as described earlier in the advert. Further information can be found in the full Job Description, however some examples of main responsibilities in accordance with the five corporate objectives are below.

Provide midwifery and clinical leadership, coordinating and assuring the highest standards of care for patients as measured by performance indicators Provide professional midwifery leadership on the organisation and management of care Facilitate and lead team working, innovation and practice development Recognise and identify midwifery practice issues and under-performance, manage using the appropriate human resource policies Be the named budget holder for their area of responsibility, maximising the use of manpower and resources and delivering a balanced budget. Lead the contribution to the delivery of the Divisions efficiency targets. Work with the Divisionalmanagement team to prioritise cost pressures Allocate duties to staff in accordance with their individual levels of competence Lead and encourage practice development initiatives, encouraging innovation and development and ensuring that teams participate in patient safety and quality improvement programmes Lead the implementation of the Patient Experience and Involvement strategy, improving the patient experience by being visible, listening to and resolving problems for patients and their relatives and building links with PALS To be aware of local and national improvement drivers and implement change that benefits women, babies and their families Represent the Department and or Division on working groups, committees etc appropriate to clinical and professional role

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered Midwife Degree in midwifery or health related subject or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years working at a senior level. Evidence of Teaching/mentorship qualification. Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

Management or Leadership qualification Education to master level or equivalent (working towards) Current PMA or willingness to undertake programme

Experience Essential

Team management experience Evidence of excellent managerial, leadership and organisational skills. Evidence of ability to work across professional teams and organisational boundaries. Proven track record of being able to delegate and prioritise. Evidence of excellent understanding of Trust policies and procedures and ability to translate these into action. Evidence of Performance Management skills. A sound understanding of National Midwifery and Patient Agendas. Budgetary Management Expereince An understanding of Clinical Governance and the application to practice.
