The Sizewell C Jobs Service supports local people into exciting, long-term careers across our Project.#SZCJobs Permit Controller (Sizewell C) Wilson James Sizewell C Job Responsibilities • Administer the permit-to-work process, permit register and supporting records for WJ-controlled areas. • Review permit applications for completeness, scope, location, timing, interfaces and required controls. • Confirm RAMS, isolations, competencies, access approvals and specialist authorisations before permit issue. • Authorise or sign off permits only within written delegated authority and demonstrated competence. • Coordinate simultaneous operations, conflicting work, area access and operational constraints with responsible managers. • Brief permit recipients on conditions, boundaries, duration, suspension, emergency and handback requirements. • Monitor active permits, changes and expiries and ensure extensions or reissues follow the agreed process. • Confirm work areas are inspected, handed back and permits formally closed with required evidence. • Stop or suspend permitted work when conditions change, controls fail or work departs from the agreed scope. • Support audits, investigations, trend analysis and improvement of the permit-to-work system. • Provide clear reporting on active permits, constraints, breaches, overdue closure and decisions required. Other duties and responsibilities • Work in accordance with: o Wilson James policies, site procedures and training provided. o Wilson James core values: o We are fair and honest in all our activities; o We treat each other with dignity and respect; o We are responsible for all our actions and accountable for their consequences; o We have an environment that enables and supports effective communication; o We will continuously develop safe systems of work to ensure no one is placed at risk in our workplaces. o Customer policies • Carry out any other reasonable request as required by your Line Manager or the Customer Qualifications Essential • Relevant permit-to-work training and competence appropriate to the permits within the role's authority. • CITB HS&E Operatives certificate, or project-accepted equivalent. • Ability to satisfy all Sizewell C security, vetting and site access requirements. • Experience in safety, operations, facilities, engineering or contractor control, or equivalent capability. Desirable • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent Excellent written and verbal communication and record-keeping skills. • A relevant technical, engineering, facilities or health-and-safety qualification. • A working knowledge of: o A lot work, electrical, mechanical and intrusive-work permit controls o Isolation, lock-out and tag-out principles o CDM, contractor management and simultaneous operations o Warehouse, industrial, logistics or nuclear-regulated environments Experience • Practical experience operating or coordinating a permit-to-work system in an operational environment. • Strong understanding of permit boundaries, isolations, simultaneous operations and control verification. • Ability to review RAMS and recognise when specialist technical approval is required. • Confidence to challenge, refuse, suspend or stop work when controls are inadequate. • Excellent attention to detail and disciplined permit and evidence management. • Strong communication skills with contractors, supervisors, specialists and operational managers. • Ability to prioritise competing requests without compromising safety or operational control. • Experience coordinating work in live warehouse, logistics, industrial or construction environments. • Good IT skills for registers, workflows, reporting and controlled documentation. • Sound judgement and understanding that seniority does not replace designated technical authority.
