Job Title: JanitorJob DescriptionThe Janitor supports a clean, safe, and efficient manufacturing facility by performing a wide range of cleaning, sanitation, and light support tasks across production areas, bathrooms, break rooms, offices, and outdoor grounds. This role requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, attention to detail, and close collaboration with maintenance and supervision to maintain a safe and orderly work environment across multiple shifts. Responsibilities • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times in accordance with safety rules and facility requirements. • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and related fixtures to maintain hygienic conditions. • Clean floors, sinks, countertops, microwaves, and refrigerators in break rooms to ensure a tidy and sanitary environment. • Restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms, and common areas, including paper products, soap, and other toiletries. • Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors throughout the facility, maintaining clean walking surfaces in production and common areas. • Operate and run the floor scrubber on a nightly basis to keep production and common-area floors clean and safe. • Empty all trash cans and replace liners, cleaning receptacles as necessary and monitoring trash levels throughout the shift. • Observe the appearance and condition of premises and equipment, and promptly report needed repairs, safety hazards, or conditions requiring outside vendor services. • Polish furniture, metal work, and chrome surfaces using appropriate cleaning and polishing compounds. • Maintain an accurate inventory of cleaning and toiletry supplies and communicate replenishment needs in a timely manner. • Keep all janitorial equipment clean, safe, and in operable condition, and alert management when equipment becomes unusable or requires repair. • Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, mirrors, and fixtures using both step and extension ladders as needed. • Clean grounds and parking lots of litter, glass, and other debris to maintain a safe and orderly exterior environment. • Ensure walkways are clean and free of obstacles to reduce slip, trip, and fall hazards. • Clean the outside surfaces of machines, wiping grease and markings daily to support a clean and organized production area. • Mop any fluids that may appear during the shift around machines and work areas to maintain safe, dry floors. • Monitor chip hoppers and clean away chip build-up from conveyors to support smooth and safe equipment operation. • Maintain a solid working relationship with maintenance personnel and promptly alert them to conditions requiring attention from skilled trades. • Perform related work as assigned by the Shift Supervisor or other management personnel, supporting facility cleanliness and safety needs. • Properly label, dilute, and use all chemicals in accordance with safety regulations and manufacturer instructions. Essential Skills • At least 1 year of recent experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing or industrial environment. • Demonstrated good tenure at previous jobs, with stable employment rather than frequent short-term roles. • Experience using micrometers and calipers for basic measurements and quality checks. • Ability to read and write English to follow instructions, safety procedures, and documentation. • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds on a regular basis. • General labor and janitorial or custodial experience in an industrial or similar setting. • Basic machine operating skills to work safely around and in support of production equipment. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel for basic documentation or reporting. • Awareness of quality standards and the ability to support cleanliness and organization that contribute to product and process quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Comfort working around moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and extreme heat in a manufacturing environment. • Ability to follow detailed safety procedures and consistently use required PPE. • Strong attention to detail in cleaning, organizing, and monitoring facility conditions. • Reliability and punctuality for assigned shifts, with flexibility to work Saturdays when posted. • Effective communication skills to collaborate with maintenance and supervision regarding facility and equipment conditions. Work EnvironmentThe role is based in an industrial manufacturing facility with exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, extreme heat, and outside weather conditions. The noise level is typically loud, and adherence to safety rules is mandatory at all times. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas and includes eyewear, hearing protection, safety footwear, protective clothing, and any additional protection required by safety regulations. Work is performed on 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) or 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.), with two 15-minute breaks per shift. Overtime during the week is generally not required, but Saturday work may be scheduled and posted in advance. The environment includes production floors, bathrooms, break rooms, offices, walkways, parking lots, and exterior grounds, requiring frequent movement, ladder use, and regular handling of cleaning equipment and chemicals. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sterling Heights, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
