Job Title: Maintenance Technician IIIJob DescriptionThe Maintenance Technician III performs advanced preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on complex material handling systems, including conveyors, automated rollers, pneumatic sorters, and related sorting equipment. This role focuses on ensuring equipment reliability through full preventive maintenance routines, critical parts replacement, and continuous system improvement, while diagnosing and repairing both mechanical and electrical issues and supporting a safe, compliant work environment. Responsibilities • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on material handling systems, conveyors, automated rollers, pneumatic sorters, and sorting equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability. • Complete full preventive maintenance routines, including inspection, lubrication, adjustment, and replacement of critical parts to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. • Diagnose and repair mechanical failures by changing motors, replacing belts, removing and installing conveyor slats, and servicing gearboxes, bearings, pulleys, and other power transmission components. • Troubleshoot electrical and controls-related issues using electrical schematics, manufacturer manuals, engineering specifications, digital multimeters, and motor control circuit diagrams. • Connect to PLC processors to troubleshoot control issues, interpret PLC programs, burn EEPROMs, and work with industrial networks such as ControlNet and DeviceNet. • Create, modify, and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to support repairs, upgrades, and equipment improvements. • Utilize CMMS software to document maintenance activities, manage and close work orders, and track equipment history for continuous improvement and compliance purposes. • Support and promote a safe work environment by following established safety procedures and reporting hazards or equipment issues promptly. • Assist and mentor lower-level technicians by providing guidance, sharing technical knowledge, and supporting skill development. • Collaborate with other departments and team members to coordinate maintenance activities, minimize production impact, and resolve complex equipment and controls issues. • Escalate complex controls and equipment problems appropriately when additional expertise or resources are required. • Manage time and tasks effectively to prioritize work orders, respond to urgent issues, and maintain an organized workflow during long shifts. Essential Skills • Minimum of 4+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or similar environment. • Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and controls systems. • Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance on conveyors, material handling systems, and automated equipment. • Proficiency in pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repair of pneumatic sorters and related components. • Experience with hydraulics and associated maintenance and repair tasks. • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical components such as motors, belts, conveyor slats, gearboxes, bearings, pulleys, and power transmission systems. • Electrical troubleshooting skills using schematics, digital multimeters, and motor control circuit diagrams. • PLC troubleshooting experience, including connecting to PLC processors and interpreting PLC programs. • Familiarity with industrial networks such as ControlNet and DeviceNet. • Ability to create, modify, and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics. • Competence in using CMMS software to manage work orders and document maintenance activities. • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with technicians and cross-functional teams. • Effective teamwork, organization, and time management skills suitable for long shifts and high-volume workloads. • Ability to regularly walk, sit, stand, perform computer work, and lift up to 50 pounds. • Willingness and ability to work 3rd shift, 12-hour shifts from approximately 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m, Thursday night through Sunday morning. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience performing maintenance in a non-climate-controlled industrial environment. • Comfort working extended shifts and weekend schedules on a consistent basis. • Ability to assist and coach less experienced technicians in troubleshooting and repair techniques. • Strong attention to detail when reviewing technical documentation and equipment specifications. • Adaptability to changing priorities and production demands while maintaining safety and quality standards. Work EnvironmentThis role operates on a 3rd shift schedule with 12-hour shifts, typically from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Thursday night through Sunday morning. The position includes additional shift premiums for designated shifts. The work takes place in a non-climate-controlled industrial environment, where temperatures may vary with the seasons. The role requires regular walking, sitting, standing, computer work, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The environment is centered around material handling systems and industrial equipment, with a focus on safety, reliability, and effective collaboration during overnight operations. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Prairie Du Chien, WI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $29.00 - $36.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
