Job Title: Mechanical Assembly TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Mechanical Assembly Technician installs components and equipment on heavy-duty chassis frames used in specialized vehicles such as aircraft refueling and vacuum trucks. This role focuses on precise mechanical assembly, upfitting, and body work using a variety of hand and power tools in a busy shop environment. Responsibilities • Install mechanical components and equipment onto heavy-duty chassis frames according to specifications and blueprints. • Perform mechanical assembly, upfitting, and body shop-related tasks on specialized trucks, including aircraft refueling and vacuum vehicles. • Use personal hand tools and shop equipment, such as torque wrenches and impact tools, to complete assembly work safely and efficiently. • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate installation and alignment of parts. • Inspect assembled components for proper fit, function, and quality, making adjustments as needed. • Collaborate with a team of assemblers in assigned bay areas to complete builds within required timeframes. • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and cared for. • Follow all shop safety procedures, including safe lifting techniques and proper use of personal protective equipment. • Adapt to varying start times and workload demands, including optional overtime on some Saturdays as needed. • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding progress, issues, and improvement opportunities in the assembly process. Essential Skills • Minimum 2 years of mechanical and heavy equipment experience, including hands-on work with mechanical tools. • Proven mechanical assembly background, with references able to speak to mechanical and assembly experience. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately. • Ownership of a personal set of mechanical tools suitable for assembly work. • Familiarity with common shop tools and equipment, including torque wrenches and impact tools. • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with heavy-duty chassis and equipment. • Ability to bend, squat, and lift 50100 lbs safely and repeatedly in a shop environment. • Reliability in adhering to scheduled shifts and adapting to early start times when required. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with mechanical assembly in environments such as body shops, farm equipment repair, or truck upfitting. • background working on heavy-duty vehicles or specialized equipment such as refueling or vacuum trucks. • Comfort working in a garage setting where exposure to temperature changes and the elements is common. • Ability to work effectively in small teams of 12 assemblers per bay within a larger group of 610 assemblers. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reliable assemblies. • Willingness to work optional overtime, including some Saturdays, when needed to meet production demands. Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a garage-style shop environment where you may be exposed to varying temperatures and the elements. The team consists of approximately 610 assemblers, typically working in small groups of 12 per bay area to complete vehicle builds. The standard shift runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of starting at 5:00 a.m. on hot days and optional overtime on some Saturdays. You will regularly use mechanical and shop tools, including torque wrenches, impact tools, and personal hand tools. The dress code is practical and safety-focused: jeans, T-shirt, and steel-toed boots. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
