Field Construction Supervisor

Summary: Supervises field construction representatives; administers inspections for new school buildings, additions, and renovations; performs administrative, liaison, and final inspection tasks.

Qualifications: Required

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree. • Two (2) years of experience in building construction inspection, some of which shall have been in the supervision and evaluation of inspection activities and performing final inspections. • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.

• Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record. • Knowledge of the methods, practices, and procedures used in the construction or modification of buildings, schools, and related structures. • Knowledge of trades involved in building construction projects. • Knowledge of mechanical drawings, general construction surveying, and cost estimating. • Ability to learn the content of and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, applicable building codes, and regulations, and recognize deviations from such requirements. • Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of journey-level construction inspectors. • Ability to be firm and tactful in dealing with contractors, architects, construction workers, and the general public. • Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare complete and concise written reports.

Major Duties/Essential Functions: • Plans, directs, assigns, and reviews the work of a group of field construction representatives. • Assists with coordination and communications among architects, engineers, contractors, building tradesmen, school maintenance, and county personnel. • Reviews and examines plans and specifications, checking for compliance with School Board requirements and all applicable codes and ordinances. • Maintains shop drawings, sample, and job correspondence for approved installation and materials; posts plans and changes to plans. • Supervises special tests for footings, soil, electrical capacity, water pressure, etc. • Assists with conducting inspection surveys of existing facilities to prioritize construction or maintenance needs. • Arranges and participates in inspections at various stages of school construction/ renovation projects to assess the quality and ensure compliance with contract documents and codes. • Attends job progress meetings, reviewing the progress of the project and making suggestions for improvements. • Completes deficiency lists; coordinates the punch list. • Coordinates final inspections. • Informs manager of any unusual occurrences, problems, or changes to the contract documents. • Helps conduct surveys. • Prepares status and special reports. • Coordinates training programs. • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: This job requires strength, agility, dexterity, and visual acuity to perform all tasks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel. There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noises.
