Process Manager I - Operations
Job Description: U. S. Steel Tubular Products delivers high-quality seamless pipe that supports America’s energy and industrial infrastructure. Our team manufactures premium tubular products and partners with customers to solve complex operational challenges.
Position Summary: The Inventory Process Manager owns the physical and system management of a large volume of pipe inventory across a 150-acre pipe yard. This role ensures inventory accuracy, traceability, safe storage, material flow, and shipment readiness while strengthening processes to support continued growth.
The ideal candidate is an experienced pipe inventory leader who can take ownership of a large-scale yard, align physical inventory with system records, and improve an immature or struggling inventory process.
Responsibilities: • Own end-to-end pipe inventory processes across the yard, including receipt, identification, location control, storage, movement, staging, loading, and reconciliation. • Maintain alignment between physical inventory and system records through timely transactions, cycle counts, audits, and discrepancy resolution. • Lead safe yard organization and material flow across approximately 150 acres, supporting a large volume of pipe inventory. • Improve inventory controls, yard layout, location labeling, visual management, storage standards, and product traceability. • Identify root causes for inventory variances, missing material, incorrect locations, product damage, and delayed transactions; implement lasting corrective actions. • Build scalable processes, standard work, controls, and training to support inventory growth and improve the system. • Partner with Operations, Shipping, Logistics, Quality, Commercial, Planning, and Information Technology to support customer and business needs. • Monitor key measures such as inventory accuracy, cycle-count performance, aging inventory, material dwell time, damage, and transaction timeliness. • Lead physical inventories, audits, reconciliations, and other inventory-control activities with minimal disruption to operations. • Provide clear leadership, priorities, and accountability for employees supporting inventory control, material handling, and shipment readiness. • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, quality, customer, and financial-control requirements. • Provide off-shift, weekend, or holiday support as business needs require in a 24/7 operation. Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of inventory management experience. • Ability to work on-site at the Houston location. • Demonstrated expertise managing both the physical and system sides of large-scale pipe inventory. • Experience improving inventory accuracy, traceability, yard organization, material flow, and transaction discipline. • Proven success strengthening immature, growing, or underperforming inventory processes. • Leadership experience with responsibility for employees, process execution, accountability, and cross-functional coordination. • Working knowledge of physical inventory, cycle counting, location management, reconciliation, inventory systems, and root cause analysis. • Strong communication, planning, organization, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced operating environment. Preferred Qualifications • Experience managing casing, tubing, couplings, accessories, or other long-product inventory requiring strong identification and traceability controls. • Experience with enterprise resource planning, warehouse-management, yard-management, or inventory systems. • Experience redesigning yard layouts, location systems, visual controls, storage utilization, or loading practices. • Working knowledge of Lean, 5S, standard work, process mapping, and continuous-improvement methods. • Experience working with union-represented employees, logistics providers, contractors, and transportation partners.
