Job Description: Maintenance Technician - Creve Coeur, IL Full-time, hourly (non-exempt)
Position Summary The Facilities and Maintenance Technician keeps the facility's buildings, grounds, and equipment safe, clean, and running. The role covers preventive maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep across the site, including grain handling equipment, rail and truck receiving areas, and support buildings. The technician works closely with operations staff to reduce downtime and keep work areas compliant with safety and housekeeping standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on conveyors, bucket elevators, drag chains, augers, motors, gearboxes, bearings, belts, and dust collection systems. • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical (within qualification level), hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment. • Maintain buildings and grounds, including doors, lighting, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, fencing, and paved or gravel areas. • Carry out housekeeping and dust control to meet OSHA Grain Handling Standard (29 CFR 1910.272) requirements. • Follow and support lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hot work, and fall protection procedures. • Weld, cut, and fabricate parts or brackets as needed. • Complete work orders and maintenance logs accurately, noting parts used and follow-up needed. • Help maintain parts inventory and let the supervisor know about low stock or recurring failures. • Assist with rail car and truck loading or unloading equipment repairs during peak periods, including harvest. • Operate mobile equipment such as skid steers, forklifts, man lifts, and loaders. • Take part in safety meetings, inspections, and required training. • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: • High school diploma or GED. • 1 to 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial, agricultural, or manufacturing setting. • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, basic electrical, and hand and power tools. • Ability to read basic schematics, manuals, and work instructions. • Valid driver's license. • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours during harvest and peak shipping seasons. Preferred: • Experience in grain elevators, feed mills, or bulk material handling. • Welding and fabrication skills (MIG, stick, torch). • Forklift, man lift, or confined space certification. • Familiarity with a CMMS or work order system. • Technical school coursework in industrial maintenance, electrical, or a related trade. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs; occasionally more with assistance. • Climb ladders, stairs, and catwalks, and work at heights of 100+ feet with fall protection. • Work in confined spaces, bins, tunnels, and pits under permit procedures. • Exposure to dust, noise, moving machinery, and outdoor weather in all seasons. • Required to wear PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator (fit-tested), and steel-toe boots. : Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
