About this role

Reporting to the Head of Exposure Management, the Underwriting Exposure Manager is responsible for the identification, measurement, monitoring, analysis and reporting of non-natural catastrophe exposures across the Company's reinsurance portfolio. The role supports underwriting decision-making by ensuring that casualty clash, cyber, terror, specialty and other man-made accumulations are understood, quantified, monitored against approved risk appetites and managed within established limits and tolerances.

Working closely with Underwriting, Actuarial, Risk Management and Catastrophe Modelling teams, the role provides portfolio-level insight into exposure concentrations, emerging accumulations and aggregation trends to support profitable growth and effective risk management. The position also drives the development of tools, processes and reporting capabilities to improve the monitoring of non-natural catastrophe perils.

Duties and responsibilities

• Work with Risk Management to develop and maintain frameworks for identifying and quantifying non-natural catastrophe exposures across all relevant underwriting classes.

• Monitor aviation, casualty clash, cyber accumulation, terrorism, political violence, marine, energy, liability accumulation and other emerging accumulation risks.

• Ensure material accumulations are identified at both individual treaty and portfolio level.

• Own and maintain the non-natural catastrophe components of the Company's Risk Registry and supporting exposure registers, ensuring material risks are appropriately defined, quantified and monitored.

• Monitor portfolio accumulations against approved risk appetite statements, exposure limits and management thresholds.

• ·Produce regular exposure monitoring reports and dashboards for underwriting teams and senior management.

• Support business planning activities through analysis of portfolio composition, concentration risk and diversification.

• Provide pre-bind and post-bind exposure analysis to support underwriting decisions.

• Advise on portfolio optimisation opportunities and risk-adjusted growth strategies.

• Develop and maintain methodologies for modelling and aggregating non-natural catastrophe exposures.

• Apply proxy modelling, realistic disaster scenario analysis and expert judgement where vendor models are unavailable.

• Promote high standards of exposure data quality, completeness and accuracy.

• Support rating agency and regulatory requests relating to portfolio exposures.

• Ensure compliance with the Underwriting Exposure Management Policy and associated procedures.

• Support internal audits, model validation reviews and regulatory examinations.

• Participate in risk committees and governance forums as required.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, data science, finance or another relevant quantitative discipline.

• Relevant professional qualification or progress towards a recognised actuarial, insurance, risk management or other relevant professional designation would be advantageous.

• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience within reinsurance, exposure management, catastrophe modelling, actuarial, risk management or a related analytical function.

• Strong understanding of reinsurance portfolios, structures and classes of business, with experience analysing accumulation, aggregation and concentration risk.

• Knowledge of non-natural catastrophe and man-made exposure risks, including casualty clash, cyber, terrorism, political violence, marine, energy and other relevant accumulation scenarios.

• Experience developing or applying exposure management methodologies, analytical frameworks and portfolio monitoring approaches.

• Experience with exposure management, portfolio analytics and reporting tools, with strong data analysis and visualisation capability.

• Strong SQL skills and experience working with databases; experience with R, Python, R Shiny and/or Power BI would be advantageous.

• Understanding of risk appetite, exposure limits, scenario analysis and relevant exposure management governance and reporting requirements.

• Experience within Bermuda, Lloyd’s or other international reinsurance markets would be advantageous.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to translate complex exposure information into clear insights.

• Sound judgement and the ability to identify, assess and escalate material risk issues appropriately.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of audiences.

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to agreed timelines.

• High attention to detail, with a commitment to data quality, accuracy and effective governance.
