Main duties and responsibilities

De Montfort University (DMU) is an ambitious, globally-minded institution with a strong focus on delivering an excellent student and staff experience.

We are seeking a Payroll & Pensions Advisor to join our People Services team. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of payroll data in advance of monthly processing, alongside supporting the delivery of a high-quality, compliant payroll and pensions service.

You will act as a key escalation point for complex payroll and pensions queries, provide expert advice to colleagues and stakeholders, and support the administration of multiple pension schemes. The role also contributes to service development, system improvements (including SAP), and continuous improvement initiatives across the University.

Ideal Candidate

You will have a professional payroll qualification (CIPP) or significant recent experience within a payroll environment, alongside strong knowledge of payroll processes across the employee lifecycle.

You will demonstrate experience of working with pension schemes such as TPS, LGPS, USS or UCRSS, and be confident using integrated HR and payroll systems (e.g. SAP, iTrent, Oracle). With advanced Excel skills and excellent attention to detail, you will be able to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.

You will also bring strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and provide a high standard of customer service to a diverse range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
