Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join our multidisciplinary team as a Specialist Nurse.
This role has been developed as part of our service sustainability and succession planning, supporting the delivery of high-quality care to children and young people and their families with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders.
The complex nature of these lifelong disorders requires specialist medical and nursing care. The Department of Health has acknowledged this with the publication of the health circular HSG (93) 30, which states that all people with haemophilia should have access to comprehensive care.
GOSH has the largest Haemophilia Comprehensive Care for children in the UK and is one of the five largest in Europe. We specialise in complications of haemophilia and other bleeding disorders such as the management of inhibitors. We also look after children with inherited thrombotic tendencies, which are less likely to cause problems before adulthood. The department receives referrals from other parts of south-east England and further afield in the UK.
The successful applicant will have support and opportunity to work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) and medical teams within the department.
Main duties of the job
You will play a key role in supporting the Haemophilia - Bleeding Disorders service, contributing to:
o delivery of specialist nursing care to children and young people with bleeding disorders;
o supporting patient and family education, including home treatment and self-management;
o assisting the management of acute bleeding and urgent patient queries;
o supporting the inpatient nursing team when children and young people with bleeding disorders are admitted; and
o contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
To be considered for this role you must have current registration with the NMC and excellent CYP clinical skills. It is desirable to have demonstrable knowledge and experience within haemophilia - bleeding disorders.
