Success has been seen over the past five years of ownership, including the introduction of same-day arthroplasty, recognition as the first GIRFT-accredited site in the UK, the only IS ACSA-accredited site under the Royal College of Anaesthetists Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation programme, and a drive through the anaesthetic department to expand both the high-volume, low-complexity cohort and the care of more complex patients with greater comorbidity. Main duties of the job Sulis is highly regarded at local, regional (Southwest) and national levels not only for the level of care for our patients and staff, but ingenuity in service-line development, efficiency and outcomes We are looking for Consultant Anaesthetists to join our team. The post will compliment an existing team of consultants. The job plan will involve 8 programmed activities (PAs). As a patient-centred, clinically led organisation we expect our clinical partners to participate in care-pathway development, research, audit, and teaching. There could be the opportunity to develop your own clinical leadership and take on additional responsibilities for medical leadership of our theatres, Day Surgery Unit, Inpatient Unit, Pre-Op Assessment services and other areas. The postholder will be line-managed by the Medical Director. We are looking for someone who has extensive experience and training in the specialty. Short-stay, high-volume cases are expected and experience in the delivery of anaesthesia commensurate with same-day cases is required, e.g. arthroplasties. Experience in upper-limb regional anaesthesia is desirable. The successful appointee will be expected to comply with all relevant Sulis policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the treatment of patients, completion of appropriate documentation including management of postoperative analgesia.

Job description Job responsibilities Consultants are also expected to work with other partners, clinical unit managers, nurses, and consultant colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure clinical, and local priorities are achieved. The job plan will be adjusted to fulfil the interests of the successful appointee; however, appointees will be expected to deliver a minimum of eight Clinical PAs in theatres and pre-operative assessment and two PAs of Supporting Professional Activity time each week. Weekend working will be rostered in conjunction with other Sulis-employed Consultant colleagues. An on-call weekend roster will also be shared with colleagues. Should the cohort of Sulis-employed Consultants be sufficient, cross-cover between the cohort can be arranged to minimise the on-call requirements Full time (job share would also be considered) This role will require DBS clearance If you have full registration with the GMC, included on the Specialist Register are within 3 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview, FRCA or equivalent, CCT or CESR then we would like to hear from you. Extensive training and experience in anaesthesia Experience appropriate to short-stay, high-volume and same-day surgery, including major elective pathways Several years of relevant experience, including at least two years within UK practice Current competence in ultrasound-guided upper-limb regional anaesthesia, including interscalene block Ability to work independently, take responsibility for an operating list and make appropriate decisions on patient suitability, escalation and transfer Evidence of participation in clinical audit Awareness and practical understanding of clinical governance Commitment to quality improvement, safe care and service development

Recognised expertise in an anaesthetic subspecialty Additional advanced regional anaesthetic techniques beyond the essential upper-limb requirement Previous experience working at consultant level Previous experience working in the independent healthcare sector
