Job summary
Manage, direct and evaluate the nursing care for a defined caseload of patients.
Contribute significantly toward the continuing development of professional nursing practice within the Endoscopy Unit.
Maintain and continually develop specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to individual clinical area.
Encourage the patients' family and friends to be actively involved in the caring process.
Act as a mentor and role model to others, reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care outlined in the Endoscopy department philosophy.
Communicate information effectively to patients / carers and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
It is the duty of every member of staff to take personal responsibility for the prevention and control of infection, as laid down in the Trust's policies and procedures which reflect the statutory requirements of the Hygiene Code.
o To work in close collaboration with the Infection Control Team.
o To ensure that monitoring of clinical practice is undertaken at the agreed frequency.
o To ensure that the ward environments are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards; ensuring that shortfalls are rectified or escalate as necessary.
o To ensure that all relevant monitoring data and issues are provided to the Directorate's Governance structures.
o To ensure that all staff are released to attend infection control-related educational sessions and staff with specialist roles, e.g., link practitioners, are released to undertake their duties.
About us
Our consultant-led gastroenterology team provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, including all diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures and our highly regarded endoscopy services which we provide seven days per week. We have an upper GI nurse endoscopist, viral hepatitis nurse specialist, and a gastroenterology nurse specialist.
We are a busy Endoscopy Department for both inpatients and outpatients with two dedicated Endoscopy rooms enabling dedicated fluoroscopy sessions each week and two Bronchoscopy sessions each week for two Respiratory consultants. The unit has recently opened a newly refurbished recovery area with separate male and female facilities.
There is a dedicated administrative team for Endoscopy who are managed by the Operations Manager.
The Nursing team includes the Endoscopy Department Manager, experienced deputy Department managers, Staff Nurses, Endoscopy Assistants and designated portering staff.

Deliver a patient centered style of practice that reflects and promotes the beliefs and values of professional nursing practice and patient care outlined in the Endoscopy departments philosophy.
Set and maintain standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team leaders and departmental manager. Accurately document and report to other members of the nursing team and multi-disciplinary team information regarding the care given to patients, communicating changes as they occur. Liaise with other health care professionals with ongoing responsibility for patient care. Supervise, mentor, support and educate junior nurses in the clinical practice setting. Adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice at all times. Demonstrate a commitment to research based practice and clinical excellence and play an active part in the introduction of research-based change to improve patient centered care. Demonstrate a problem-solving approach when assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care using a holistic model of care.
