Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent individual to join our friendly and progressive department. The successful candidate will work with an established multidisciplinary team in a busy area encompassing the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory and a Day Ward. The postholder will have the opportunity to develop into the role which will include assisting with procedures in the lab, being involved in the pre and post procedure care of patients and nurse led preadmission clinics. The postholder should ideally have experience or knowledge of working with cardiac patients and be able to work under pressure.

Main duties of the job
The purpose of the job is to work in conjunction with the cardiology team to deliver high quality nursing care to cardiac patients. The post holder carries responsibility for the assessment of care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.
The post holder will on agreed occasions be designated to take charge of the shift in absence of the nurse who has continuing responsibility. The post holder is expected to supervise junior staff and be able to teach qualified and unqualified staff, including pre and post registration students.
The Post holder will be required to work flexible pattern of a variety of shifts including 10 hour long days, 7.5hour long shifts, late shifts, Monday to Friday.
To assist medical staff by acting as a scrub nurse for procedures. The post holder will need to be able to wear lead aprons to comply with radiation protection regulations.

Job description Job responsibilities
1. To provide skilled nursing care, demonstrating a high standard of practise for the whole experience for every cardiac patient.
2. To demonstrate a high standard of practice in assessing, implementing and evaluating patient care.
3. Acts as scrub nurse in diagnostic and interventional procedures such as Angiography, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, Permanent and Temporary Pacemakers.
4. Work in Cardiac Cath Lab Recovery and Pre Assessment areas.
5. To promote evidence based practise for the cardiac patient from admission to discharge.
6. To maintain accurate records and documentation according to all guidelines in place.
7. To attend Ward meetings and contribute to the implementation of change, providing feedback from any study days attended.
8. To ensure that custody, administration and recording of drugs are in accordance with Trust Policy and NMC guidelines. Using the Hospital Nerve Centre system as appropriate when trained.
9. To adhere to the guidelines within the NMC Code of Conduct
10. To deal with emergencies in the Cath Lab and on the recovery ward in a calm and professional manner.
11. To support families and relatives during distressing circumstances such as bereavement or the imparting news of a complicated diagnosis such as a patient needing Heart Surgery.
