Job summary
King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Highly Specialised Fixed Restorative Dental Technician (Digital Lead) to join our Dental Technology Services.
The Fixed Restorative Laboratory forms part of the Trust's Dental Technology Service and supports complex restorative dentistry and multidisciplinary patient care. The laboratory provides advanced technical services in crown and bridge, implant-supported restorations, aesthetic restorative dentistry and digital CAD/CAM manufacturing.
A key aspect of the role will be to support and lead the continued development of digital workflows within the Fixed Restorative Laboratory, including CAD/CAM processes, service improvement, quality assurance and the evaluation and implementation of new technologies. The post holder will work collaboratively with the department's Biomedical CAD/CAM Engineer and wider Dental Technology team to support innovation and the continued modernisation of the service.

Main duties of the job
The main responsibility of the post holder is working within the multidisciplinary team supporting Restorative Dentistry, Prosthodontics and other dental specialties. The post holder will be responsible for the design and manufacture of complex fixed restorative dental devices, implant-supported restorations, digital CAD/CAM workflows and advanced manufacturing technologies.
The post holder will contribute to the timely, efficient and cost-effective management and operation of the Fixed Restorative Laboratory and ensure the provision of the highest standards of technical quality and service delivery. This person will work closely within a multidisciplinary dental team.
The post holder will demonstrate a level of competency in accordance with the departmental competency framework and will be responsible for maintaining their own professional development with support.

Job description Job responsibilities
Provide a highly specialised technical service in the design, manufacture and quality assurance of complex fixed restorative dental devices, including crown and bridge restorations, implant-supported prostheses and advanced aesthetic restorations.
Manufacture highly complex patient-specific dental devices using conventional and digital techniques, ensuring compliance with departmental protocols, professional standards and current legislation.
Lead the implementation, development and optimisation of digital workflows within the Fixed Restorative Laboratory, ensuring the safe integration of CAD/CAM technologies into routine service delivery.
Work closely with Consultants and Dental Care Professionals to interpret prescriptions and treatment plans, providing specialist technical advice regarding restoration design, materials selection and manufacturing techniques.
Monitor and adjust work priorities in conjunction with Consultants and senior colleagues to respond to changing clinical demands, ensuring agreed turnaround times and service standards are maintained.
Be accountable for own professional actions and work within the standards of proficiency, codes of conduct and professional guidelines relevant to Dental Technicians.
Apply advanced knowledge of dental anatomy, occlusion, dental materials science and digital manufacturing techniques in determining the most appropriate technical solution for individual patient prescriptions.
Be responsible for the safe use, maintenance and routine quality assurance of specialised laboratory equipment including CAD/CAM systems, laboratory scanners, milling units, furnaces, digital design software and associated manufacturing technologies.
Ensure all laboratory records, prescriptions and legal documentation relating to patient-specific dental devices are completed accurately and maintained in accordance with Trust policy, GDC standards and UK Medical Device Regulations.
Participate in cross-site working where required to support the delivery of Dental Technology Services across King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Assist in the management of workload, quality assurance, stock control and the efficient day-to-day operation of the Fixed Restorative Laboratory.
Participate in audit, service evaluation and data collection to support service improvement, quality assurance and governance.
Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post as requested by the Head of Maxillofacial Services & Dental Technology.
Be responsible for the development, implementation and optimisation of digital workflows within the Fixed Restorative Laboratory, supporting service innovation and continuous improvement.

BSc Dental Sciences / Technology (or equivalent) Post graduate HND / University Professional Diploma in Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Technology (2 years) MPT Vocational training and/or Masters MFPR Membership of the I.M.P.T.
