An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Neonatal Service at Swansea Bay University Health Board as a Ward Assistant based within the Neonatal Unit at Singleton Hospital.
Our Neonatal Unit provides specialist care for premature and sick newborn babies and their families across Swansea Bay and the surrounding region. We are looking for a motivated, caring and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting high-quality neonatal care and contributing to a positive experience for babies, parents and staff.
As a Ward Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the Neonatal Unit. Although this is a non-clinical position, the contribution of the Ward Assistant is integral to patient safety, quality of care and the overall patient experience. You will work closely with nurses, doctors, allied health professionals and support services to maintain a safe, clean, organised and well-stocked clinical environment for some of our most vulnerable patients.
This role offers the opportunity to become part of a dedicated and compassionate multidisciplinary team committed to delivering exceptional neonatal care. You will be supported to develop your skills and knowledge within a specialist healthcare environment while making a meaningful difference to the lives of babies and their families.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Neonatal Unit by undertaking a range of essential non-clinical duties that help maintain a safe, efficient and well-organised environment. Responsibilities include maintaining stock levels, organising supplies and equipment, and supporting the effective use of resources across the unit.
You will clean and prepare incubators, cots, patient areas and parent accommodation, ensuring bed spaces are ready for new admissions. The role also includes cleaning clinical equipment and ward areas in line with infection prevention and control standards, helping to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for babies, families and staff.
Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will assist with stock management, equipment movements, record keeping and monitoring designated equipment. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will liaise with colleagues, parents and visitors in a professional and compassionate manner.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge Essential
Level 2 qualification or equivalent relevant experience. Experience of working as part of a team.

Previous experience working with people in a caring capacity.
