Full Time hours 37.5 per week
£33,262 - £36,027 inc HCAS pa pro rata
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join Bromley Healthcare's Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service. This role involves supporting the work of the service to both Early Years and Mainstream Schools across Bromley supporting Children and Young People with Speech, Language and Communication Needs. We are keen to hear from people with experience of working as Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, Teaching Assistants or any relevant experience in health, social care or education settings. Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with Speech and Language Therapists to undertake specific skilled support work to enable children and young people to meet their outcomes and to support those around the child to be able to implement advice. This will include providing treatment and interventions to children with a range of speech, language and communication needs. The post holder will support and carry out speech and language therapist sessions including delivering individual sessions, group work and supporting assessment. The ability to communicate effectively with children, families and other colleagues is key to the role. The job holder will be expected to use a range of speech and language therapy formal and informal assessments after internal training under the support of a Speech and Language Therapist. The job holder will be able to write basic therapy plans and goals with supervision by a Speech and Language Therapist.

Job description Job responsibilities
Assist the Speech and Language Therapists in the management of children using a range of therapy techniques and research based advice. This could include running groups ( virtually or face to face) in speech orlanguage interventions, using AAC including signing such as MAKATON,communication boards and books and Token Exchange or makingobservations of a child in pre school or school .To assist speech andlanguage therapists by engaging in assessment and treatment sessions. To carry out visits to homes, children and family centres, schools andnurseries to complete the speech and language therapy programmes andsupport and train staff and carers. This will be under the direction of thetherapist but often without direct supervision. To carry out screening assessments of pre school children in drop in clinics in children and family centres To manage the treatment of children as delegated by the therapist sometimes working without direct supervision, and responsible for monitoring patient progress, modifying therapy programmes and approaches, and reporting back to the therapist of any changes or seeking advice as appropriate.

Skills Essential
Good observational skills for assessment and treatment Good standard of written and verbal communication To be able to motivate and communicate with children who may have difficulties with understanding. Able to travel around the community to attend home and school visits.
